Leave the file there. From what I read this is a hoax and is not a real virus. Click on the link in Todd's second post. It gives a description of it. ------------------ |

THIS IS A HOAX !!!!!!!! DO NOT DELETE THAT FILE ! I sell antivirus software and this is not a real virus...that file is a standard Microsoft file. Look at the following link! http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/articles/sulfnbk.html ------------------ |

Wish I would have seen this post earlier! YES IT IS A HOAX! There are instructions at Symantics site on how to retrieve the file from the precopy1.cab file where it sits on your windows disk. The only way this file could be infected with a virus is if it has one of the worm viruses in it and then a virus protection program will detect that. Also, if you found it any other place than in your windows/command directory - it should not be there. ------------------ |

I did a search and I found I do still have the sulfnbk file in my temp folders, but not the exe. and it says it is used to back up large file names, I only back up quickbooks pro on here. Maybe later I can look into seeing if the back up is ok. See ya ------------------ |

John, if you click on Todd's link to read about the virus, you will also find this: In the event that the SULFNBK.EXE file was deleted erroneously, the following method may be used to restore the file from backup: 1) Click START - RUN, type SFC and hit ENTER -- End Windows 98 Instructions -- -- Windows ME Instructions -- 1) Click START - RUN, type MSCONFIG and hit ENTER -- End Windows ME Instructions --

John - you work only two hours? Send me an application to your company - I'm a wood butcher also! I'm sure you can restore the file. I sat on Todd's email, waiting for others to mention what was going on. I did something right for a change, Sondra will be proud. |

From what I can gather, John has others do his dirty work. He only goes out and checks up on whoever. I have not figured that out yet. Most of the times, he just sits in from of his computer at home and monitors the POA forums like a guard watching over a cell. I sit at work compile my programs and while things are running, I will check the POA for the latest breakthroughs. Later.... ------------------ |

I'll have you know I work hard for my money,, As for the program, for some reason it is not on my restore disk, (a Gateway computer, they do not include a complete windows disk, at least I haven't found it yet) so I may just back up my quickbooks pro and see if its ok, that's the only thing I back up. If it's ok I'm not going to fool with it anymore. If it is not, I may ask for help, that is Dan doesn't mind, didn't know it was your turn to watch over me Dan?? Most of the times, he just sits in from of his computer at home and monitors the POA forums like a guard watching over a cell. Man, that was brutal, almost like you were waiting to pounce on me???? ------------------ |

That's the one Larry. We are a small company, but that does'nt mean the problems and effects on others are in proportion. |

Sorry to have caused any problems... but at least I found the fix, I hope, fast enough. I deleted that file too, thought it was a "bad" one and then got it out of my "trash" and restored it... odd your's is not in the trash there JD! Any win 98 (or whichever your running) should be able to get that file out of it and restore it. As I (now) understand it, that has something to do with windows reading long file names... not TOO dangerous, but it should be there. ------------------ |

Ken, Got it and done. Thanks CJ, Ken, and everyone, thanks for your help. Back up went fine and the file is in the proper place. Todd, I emptied my trash bin along with deleting the file, I think its gone then,,, no?? That's why I couldnt get it back from there. Anyway,, thank you all,, guess I'll get back to my cell block now and keep a eye on the POA ------------------ |
