Be truthful here people. How many of you have put the nose of your cat up onto a curb, and how long had you driven it when this was done??? I will go 1st - first day - 7 miles on the cat NEXT - ------------------

You beat me by a nose..1st day but a few more miles! So concerned about getting in far enough! Almost did it again yesterday. I nosed over a curb and don't think you could have slipped a dime between the 2. I rolled the car away from the curb by hand for fear that getting in would lower it enough to drag. ------------------ |

First day - somewhere around 35 miles I think but it wasn't a curb - it was one of those parking stall stops in a disabled spot - so the blue matched the pinstripe (until I took it off, of course). AND IT WASN'T MY FAULT - it was like 3 feet from the curb! geesh ------------------ |

1st day out in the black, took me a lil longer in the others, but I have had to fix all three front ends, and once it was a speed bump I scraped over! A couple of times it was driveways, and once I got a drive way the day I got the Black Tie fixed! ------------------ |

I had it a few months before I did it, I think. The worst part is the dealer did it while it was in getting the limp mode module replaced. I have a few new ones that I do not know how they got there. Oh well. |

Sorry, folks, but I have you all trumped on when the 1st under nose scratch occurred. In my brilliant wisdom, I decided to let my young dealer salesman load my cat onto the rented trailer while I directed him (pulled it home from Oklahoma to Wisconsin). Mind you, I didn't even see the 45 degree angle support rod holding up the rail on the front of the trailer. I was too busy directing him to have him avoid both wheel humps that intruded into the loading space. Anyway, I'm telling him to pull up just a little more, just a little more and .....scratch!! My fault. The kid was in shock when I told him the front end just got scratched. I think he thought I was going to go postal. I kept my cool and took him off the hot seat. He was just 21 and right out of college and it was really my fault for not looking harder. I did a great job on the directing portion for the rear wheels, however. He nestled that baby in with barely enough room left on each side to slide a piece of letterhead between the wheel humps and the rear tires. Talk about a near disaster. Who'd figure what the actual clearance would need to be with those big ole fat ones on the rear? ------------------ This message has been edited by Paul on 06-19-2001 at 11:43 PM |

The owners of the dealership did the dirty deed for me, before I even got to drive it off their lot. Then they wanted to offer me a big $250 to get it fixed, since I was driving out of state that same day. Personally, I've never put it on a curb, although I've come VERY close to it. Now over 3 years later, the nose is being replaced because of road debris damage. Watch, after getting the new nose, it will be my turn to boo boo. Life happens. ------------------ |

I don't remember the exact time and date, but it was in my first month I owned the car. Went back to the dealer and got too close to a high curb in front of the showroom. ------------------ |

I personally have yet to nose one on anything...but my wife was driving the first Prowler I had and she wanted a Coke, so we pull into a convenience store at what seemed like 80 mph and she slammed the parking curb so hard the front of the car lifted up...I was screaming at her to stop way before contact to no avail...I asked her why she didn't slow down and she replied she didn't know the curb was there...seemed all the better reason to slow down to me when you can't see where you are going...should have heard it scrape coming back down off that concrete curb...a few months later I bought a silver Prowler and the same warnings were given about backing into her spot at work...I happened to be at the bank later that day and the Kat was sitting nosed into her parking spot, didn't hit the curb but it had plowed the turf up and the nose was buried in the loose dirt and grass....can't live with 'em and you can't kill 'em ------------------ |

Never touched the nose. Almost touched the trans cooler on a parking block. I admit, I have come close to touching (scratching, damaging) the car, but never done it. So far, just lucky! |

Never done it on a curb, But....... In the first week of owning the Kat I backed down my driveway and scraped the under side of the nose on the sidewalk. Our street and driveways have those 45 degree angled curbs and unless I back down SLOW angling the Kat it will scrape. Only did it once...pissed me off.... but I was over it in 5 min. I know first hand about the whole seatback coming forward like a rocket. When i first looked at a prowler, which is the one i bought, i leaned the drivers seat forward to see the space behind it and i thought it broke my nose b/c it hit me square in the face. I almost passed out and fell on the floor but the salesman didnt even notice. Shows how much attention he was paying to me. But as for rubbing curbs and stuff, i have never rubbed anything to my knowledge. I stay away from everything BUT i still ended up with my tranny cooler getting lightly rubbed and under my front nose it has a few scrapes. Dunno how i got em but they are there but out of sight. But i will probably have to get it all repainted eventually b/c of road debris and such from driving it all the time ------------------ Amsoil Engine and Tranny Fluid |

Well, I backed into a spot which I always do in a lot that has that availability and scraped the Trans cooler..had to have happened after a few months but only 1,000 miles on it..I was pissed at myself for not realizing that it would hit the curb first..and while my new 2001 Mulholland was up on a lift having the Borla exhaust installed the tech pointed out several long scratches and gouges under the nose..The car had less than 50 miles on it..I called the dealer and brought it back within the hour..I insisted that it must have happened when they were unloading the car from the transportation truck..I'm sure they thought i did it at the muffler place..nonetheless, the dealer has a Merlin type of fix 'em up people and they made it look perfect. As for now, I am always careful and cognizant of my parking and speed bump surroundings. ------------------ |

I did a double header the first day! Went to make a U turn on my block and since i was not used to the car and couldnot see the right fender, i chewed up the right hand wheel on the curb. I then proceeded to the dealer where i then smashed the nose into the curb when i parked. DUH!! |

I scraped my front the first day I had it; then, a few days later I did it again, before I finally developed the habit of parking correctly. A good rule of thumb if you're parking next to another car, curb or no curb, pull the Kat in the space whereby your door is adjacent to the rear door of the other car. If it's a 2door,stop the Kat adjacent to where the rear door of the other car would be if it were a 4door. If it's a very small car next to you such as a Mazda Miata, I have no experience with that. |

I'm currently working on a "gadget" that will sense an object up to two inches away....will keep all informed! If there are any other ideals, please post. And yes, I'm guilty also. Got my nose scratched pulling in the dealership for the first oil change. They didn't waste any time letting me know that it was there before they drove it in. |

Needless to say, I'm not amazed by the number of stories so far, but its fun knowing I wasn't alone doing some damage. This thread is to show the new owners that even us veterans have made errors in judgement, and to warn those ready to purchase their Prowlers. Thanks for your contributions.
