Hi everyone.
Dan Peņa has graciously accepted to document the motor breakage on his web site and I am in process of sending him pics to sort out. The following will be included somewhere in it, but I wanted to post here to thank all were involved in the rescue. A truly emotional journey. The friends I met are incredible, and the events led me to experience Woodward Dream Cruise.
Being grateful does not even come close to what I feel.

The Story

Out on a day cruise with old and new friends met at Deadwood. On the country roads, we crossed into Wyoming. With no one in site, Bob S., another Silver Cat owner, (we all know silver is the fastest ), pulled up next to me for a race, or just to see how we compared. Bob's Cat is also supercharged. We ran up to about 120 once and if I remember I pulled past him. We did not stop there, we ran about 3 more times with Bob getting the best of me at least 2 of those times.

I felt during one of the last runs the motor did not feel right. Mark S. my co-pilot, noticed me checking my gauges and asked if something was wrong. I said I didn't know but something did not feel right in the motor. I mean this car just doesn't give up and it felt like it was fading on me.

The last time we ran I noticed something was definitely wrong so I gave up the race and pulled back in line with the other Cats. It was hot out and I felt the car needed to cool. Well, after about 3 min of 55 mph, I felt something in the motor burp. I looked out the side mirrors and saw steam, and a black cloud come out of both sided so the car. The engine had let loose, just like a NASCAR race. I mean everywhere was smoke and steam.

I put a call out on the two way radio we had that the motor was gone and we had to stop.

What a team I had with me, typical of Prowler owners but until you experience a major upset you really don't appreciate it.

Within seconds John S., the lead car radioed back a good location to pull over and I coasted my car into place. People got out of their cars quickly, making sure Mark and I were alright. Then everyone jumped into action.

It was decided Bob L. would go back with CJ to retrieve his trailer to carry my car into a shop. And I mean there was no hesitation on decisions. While they took off I mentioned to all around they should go on and continue their day cruise. They would hear nothing of it. In John R words, "Like the marines, we carry our wounded out" I cannot explain how I felt during the two hours or so of waiting. Unbelievable.

We made good use of our time by finding some boards to push my car up on a temporary ramp to survey the damage. As you can see the low end let loose. At the same time Jerry S., with Marcia driving, backtracked the mile or more looking on the road to try to find what flew out of the crankcase. We were fighting off bees and the heat, despite my urging to continue on with their trip they would have nothing of it.

Quicker than we all expected, CJ and Bob were rounding a turn we could see a mile away. CJ had the wisdom to get refreshments for us all. The disaster had turned into a quick picnic. Sandwiches, water and soft drinks for us all. Bless you.

After we replenished ourselves we all helped put the car on Bob's trailer. Bob, Mark S. and I piled into Bob's Durango for the trip to the dealer. The others continued on with their cruise knowing I was in good hands.

I cannot emphasize to you the warmth and gratefulness I have to all involved that day. I am not going to lie, tears came to my eyes behind my sunglasses more than once. I have met many friends in my life, but the warmth and compassion expressed by all that day developed a bond that will never go away. My sincere thanks to all does not even come close to the feelings I want to express.

The heroes,, and true friends.

Mark S.
Bob and CJ
John and Debbie R.
Bob and Carol S.
Jerry and Marcia S
John S.

The motor is in now, faster than ever. (yes faster, come and get me), and the car is on the road getting attention wherever it goes.

In the future, if someone else has the misfortune I experienced, I hope I can help in even a small portion the way these people did.

John Davies,,

JD - I'm now glad I wasn't on the particular cruise that day, as you wouldn't have wanted to see a grown man cry - even if it wasn't my cat with the expired motor. I felt your pain, believe me. You handled it quite well, considering you were many miles from home. I also want to thank all who gave JD a big hand and came to his rescue.

PS - I think your bad luck was because Marc was riding with you at the time

Thanks for your thanks, I too count you as a true friend. I'll remember that day and those people the rest of my life. Not only did they all stay with us but they made it fun! Remember Pete and Duffy? Donnie and Donna made it a good experiance for both of us right to the end (I mean a steak dinner)!
Glad the car is back up and running.

JD........thanks for the kind words, but no thanks are needed. None of us did anything more than what you would have done if it had been one of us instead of you.

I know that I have said this before, but I'm going to say it again. Prowler owners are the best! I have never known a finer group of people. We've never had as much fun as we have had attending these events and making so many new friends!!

We're glad you are back on the road, JD and faster than ever!! and you know how we feel, too!

CJ - Your are correct, if there was no release form signed.

Give my lawyer a call: AL BENDOVER 1-800-WESUEALL. He has ties to the Tucson Mofia, has NEVER lost a case, and will make your target a deal 'they can't refuse' ! I'm sure one call from Big Al and all this can be settled

The Silver Bullet is strong. JD took it out with the mechanic for a couple of test drives before he left for home. Afterward he said the car was fine and the mechanic said something about changing his pants.

Because of the above story, and the need for CAT FIRST AID on cruise events, the POA will be donating six of the Cat Carrier Gurneys to the next national event.

This device will be rebuilt to size of the Prowler, so that the Catamedics can have the disabled cat stablized before the CatAmbulance arrives.
