I hate to ask this question on this site, because of mix views and you all are proud prowler owners. I have been on this site everyday for a while. I like the information that I get from you all. As I look into the tech section I see some people not liking the car with problems. I guess my delima is the prowler or viper. I like the prowler more that the viper because it's look, I think it is second to none. Is there any one out there that has or has had both and could give feedback. I want to enjoy the car without to many problems. and the next car I buy I plan to keep. This is why I need to know before making this investment. thanks for any help.

Hey Boogie,

there ARE a quite a few members that own both a Prowler (or Prowlerssss) and a Viper (or Vipersss) RIGHT LARRY

I'm NOT one of those fortunate ones but from what I've been
told comparing those 2 vehicles is like comparing apples and
oranges.

Prowler is a cruiser, yes you can drive it fast but it's NOT a "muscle-HP-car" .
The Viper is power pure and wants to be driven 'accordingly' so I guess it REALLY comes down to your personal preference as to WHAT it is you're looking
for in a vehicle.

I CAN tell you one thing - with NO OTHER car you'll get as
many looks as with a Prowler, NOT EVEN a Viper

Just my 2 cents - good luck with your decision.

thanks this is why I want the prowler. Everything I own has speed, (4 wheeler, gsxr 1000, and my 350z, and the wife's M45)so It is not all speed I think it will be fast enough ( although I have never driven one) for What I want. I guess my main concern are the problems that I see on the tech. I see some people wanting to get rid of the cat. But who ever has advise I would live to hear.

There is nothing invented or manufactured by man that is perfect! New or old, anything and everything is going to break or wear out. Life is to short to worry about this or that. You seem to be a person of means, so I say purchase the Prowler! Lots of garage queens are out there with low miles at a decent price tag. People sit on them for many reasons, and then their health or fiancial status changes and they never enjoyed the experience. If something does break, call AAA and have it carted to the shop for repairs, its not the end of the world.

All cars are brown to having problems, I for one bought my prowler used 2 years ago, and have had almost no problems, Its like anything else some are taken very good care of and some are not. They will take some hard running, but also need good care. There is nothing any neater looking, regardless of price

I have Prowlers and Vipers. Two totally different cars. Prowler definitely turns more heads and seems to attract fans of all ages. Vipers are more limited in their "fan" base.
Prowler is more of a cruiser, Viper more of a ran car. Want to have good clean fun - then Prowler.
Want a hair raising thrill ride - then Viper.

I have not had any serious issues with either Prowlers or Vipers

I have owned both, and recently sold my 96 viper to buy a 2002 Candy and I already have a 99 Red. I am using the 99 Red as a daily driver and keeping the 2002 Candy for shows and maybe to give to my daughter down the road. The Viper was much more impractical as a daily driver. You have to decide for yourself. Also realize they are still making the Vipers. Prowlers will become more of a collector item. JMO

I have had 3 Prowlers, no Vipers. I like them but they just don't do anything special for me. Kind of like a Vette. It is what appeals to you. You probably won't read anything except problems in the tech section. That is the purpose of that section, to solve the problems. It is about 1/2 of 1 percent that are having the problems. Embe seems to have a lemon of a car. I have had a few tranny sensor problems and nothing much else except a bad gas gauge reading on the first 99. No other problems. I put 50,000 on that car and it looked and ran great when I sold it.
Don't let us talk you into something you don't want but if you want an unique, cool car and lots of new friends, get the Prowler color of your choice.

I have been lucky to own both and still do. From my experience the Viper costs twice as much to drive and have been lucky not to have problems with either. I try to do all my own repair and maintenance and find the Prowler a much tamer car with the looks that Kill. The Viper is a great rush to drive with horsepower that Kills, tons of never ending torque and 6 gears as a multiplier and if your not careful the car will bite you. Still some Prowlers out there available with a Factory Warranty as do the Vipers and for the price is a good investment. Which ever one you pick get with someone from this site or the Viper site and most of the time will lend a hand with what to look for. Owning either is a great experience as fellow owners seem to take you under there wing and share the fun

Dustis,
I couldn't have said it better!!!

I also feel that a line of multiple color kats flying down the interstate is a sight that can compare to no other.

A nice Yellow one with a chrome front end in the Free Want ads. You have to get in line if you want the Deep Candy RED, someone is already looking for one of those. They are in demand, the yellows are plentiful and mostly garage queens with low miles. lol

I would think another consideration would be resale value. I never plan to sell my Prowler, but after having it 2 years, I can sell it for my than I paid for it. I am pretty certain the same can't be said for a Viper.

We have owned our 99 for 7 plus years (since new) We have 33,000 miles. Other than replacing hood gas shocks and input / output sensors in the transmission and two blown speakers (one just the other day) ours has been trouble free. I had the extended warranty and only used it the one time on the transmission sensors.
