Safety first... When running out of gas on the road side you can add gas with out getting run over standing in traffic. My 1970 Challenger is the same way. When pulling into the gas station look at your gauge cluster as the Prowler and most of the new cars have a fuel arrow pointing to the side that the fill door is on. Not sure about the reasoning for the way the fuel door opens but matches the way the trunk opens front to back...onecatnodog

I think they should place all of the fills on the same side.

Many cars now are on the right side and it SUC*S when getting into a busy gas station and most or on the left and you have to get to the right side.

1st Hot Rod Power Tour that I went on with the Prowler was interesting at the 1st fuel stop, hundreds of cars using one station going all directions and me pulling my Prowler Trailer. I thought I was going to have to unhook just to get fuel.

It'a a Right Wing conspiracy! Those that are on the LH side are a Left Wing Conspiracy. Shees!! By having them on both sides the pumps are made for 2 hoses, not one like in my olden days. Us oldtimers remember when EVERY gas pump only had one hose.

PT is on the passenger side also, so all four cars are on the right side or the wrong side. The m/c is ambidexterous, but it is easier for me to fill it from the left side since the kickstand is on that side and I carry my wallet in my right pocket, which is opposite of most folks, too.

Hmmmm, heavy wallet on right side balances kick stand weight on left side with gas filler in middle, first the Right, then the Left, now the Middle, maybe VW had it correct when it was under the hood up front, engine in rear and wallet in the Middle, no kick stand. That does it, I am going outside and count left side gas filler's, without my wallet on the otherside and walk backwards to balance the kick stand. Please, if you are going to atak my grammer, call her first.

Remember Chevy Chase in 'VACATION' movie? The station wagon had the fuel door on the hood, lol.

Our '04 Mustang has right side fill,,,,the '05 model change has it on the left side.

I think it is all decided which side,,,by whatever party controls Congress.

hotroddaddy - I see many more sleepless nights for you, until this is figured out

Interesting question! I have been 'told' that it really doesn't matter. Packaging, what little there is today in cars, they try to get it in where they can squeeze it in. My 79 Mustang had it on the pass side as well as my 88 Corsica, and 97 Cavalier. I have noticed over the years that the fuel fill usually is on the opposite side that the muffler/exhaust is on.......but the Prowler has dual exhaust so go figure?

Alright, I finished my 2 hour survey on the street. On the north side of the street out of 12 cars in one hour and 47 golf carts I saw 7 gas filler doors. I didn't see 5 + the damn golf carts.
From the south side of the street for one hour I saw 15 cars, 2 trucks and 41 golf carts. Of the cars I saw 7 gas filler doors, one on the truck, one a diesel and didn't see it on 8 cars and all those damn golf carts.
Official summary; 15 gas fillers on the north side of the cars, 12 filler doors on the south side of the cars, one truck, one diesel and 88 damn golf carts. Therefore more cars have the gas filler on the north side of the car, + or - 2%. I sure hope this helps. I am going out to get a golf cart and that solves this mystery.

Every car I have the gas filler is on the passenger side. I just bought the new Jeep and it's on the driver's side...... screws me up everytime I pull in a gas station. All what you're used to I guess!

My Cadillac has the gas cap behind the rear license plate. It is my favorite feature of the car. I can take any lane that is open

fixumm, I can't find my gas cap! I'm down to the bug bombs now. YEEhaw!!!
Sir, that is sure taking the easy way out!
Look alll I'm trying to do is help find out which side most of the fillers is on. Based upon my scientific analysis, all we had to do was ask Dr Prowler cause he lives on the north side and could have given us the answer.
