Hey everyone, soon to be new owner. I have some specific questions I could not find in the FAQ.

1: I'm looking at several Prowlers on eBay, Cars.com, Auto Trader, etc. Anything Prowler specific that I need to know about? Common mechanical alerts? I do know there was a recall for the front suspension. I've noticed that most Carfax reports do not list the recall as preformed under the scheduled work. The recall section usually says "OK." I am guessing that unless there is a specific notation in the notes this recall was not done?

2: Bumpers. I am guessing all models had the front and rear bumpers when shipped from the factory? Are modifications required to remove these bumpers? Has anyone has insurance issues with removing the bumpers?

I am in the market for a 99' to 02' black Prowler. I have seen some listed on eBay, Cars.com, etc., but there seems to be a lot of price differences for the same year, mileage, condition, etc., cars. If anyone has any leads, thanks in advance.

Thanks so much everyone. I cannot wait to drive one of these home!

Warren

P_X,
Hope you find your dream Prowler soon!
1st - The most severe alert has to do with ball joints. What ever year you buy, run the vin # at a Chrysler dealership. It will be performed at no cost to you if not already repaired. Search on this site for the ball joint issue. Some have posted photos of the good vs bad joints and how to tell by visual markings.

2nd - Bumpers. All had f & r installed at the factory. It was a gov.requirement for the OEM (Chrysler) at the time. Many have removed both, some just the front. Front removal will require a 'turn signal solution', which Tom Mills of Jefferson Auto (this site) makes a 'replacement kit' of excellent quality. Several of our members have had fender benders with the bumpers off with no ill effect from the ins. co. That is no guaranty that you won't! The Prowler is so special and in such limited supply most police and ins. people do not know the difference.

3rd - Check out the free classified section at the home page.......you might get lucky. Look every day for new postings!

Welcome to the gang!

Any year, any color, you just can't go wrong...It will change your life------------It did mine. Search this site for info on these great little cars as that is what I did before I picked up my 1999 Black Prowler. Prowler online is just one of the special things about these cars as there owners are a different breed of people of all back grounds. Buy one and your life will never be the same.....

Has anyone ever complied an average selling price list? It seems that most Prowlers are listed at 35k to 40k (without a trailer) but in reality they seem to actually sell for around $30k or less. (With 5k to 30k miles). Just wondering.

Thanks for the other notes.

Also check the inside of the wheels for flaking chrome. These are very expensive wheels and many of them have a bad case of flaking wheels.

I agree with others, I am new to this car and it was a great decision. The car and the other owners are terrific.

Take your time and get the one that fits you. I wanted a yellow first and then found the red one I got this January.
No buyers remorse with a Prowler..

Good Luck...........

Here is the list people have sent me:

1: Wheels. Has anyone ever posted pictures of this? I did a search but found none. I think I've seen this pitting on other rims.

2: Flood cars. I quess a number of cats were flooded in Florida and other places? This seems to come up a lot. Is there a sure way to check for this.

3: Nose. I hear a lot of cats have bad impact damge to the lower nose area.

4: Tops. Cuts and damage.

5: Suspension recall.

6: Bumpers removed and not in the sale package. (In case you want to put them back on).

7: Severe salt damage. (Usual signs, e.g., bubbling paint spots).

I wish there was a "Bad Cat" (pun intended) list where the known problem cars could be listed by VIN numbers. (Not to say someone might want a problem car to fix up). With so many cats spread out all over the place, I have come to the conclusion that it's goign to be difficult to find a local one. I will likely have to rely on the seller's honesty.

Thanks again everyone.... you guys rock!

from what I see in real good shape is $30K to $33K with 18k to 25k miles on it is a good deal. I have looked at a lot of prowlers and a lot of them were not in real good shape and they said they were in superb condition but by far in my book. front control arms full of brake dust and scratches on the paint suffices. but in the end you pay for what you get. always look at the car or have someone here look at it for ya

I found a yellow ...(the fastest) and watched it for 4 months playing with the seller and his price. It had 6999 miles and he wanted 40k ... well a long story short i got it for 34k and bought it in April 2005 ... It was by far the best investment I have ever made .... Soon you to will say ....driving down the road ..."I LOVE MY PROWLER" you go for it and you will become a man ...son lol
