I was wondering could some kind person help me.

She doesn’t start wiring problem,

Previously she would sometimes not start all lights flash and dash lights too flashing. Could just return key and would start.

Though it was battery so replaced and cleaned both cables and connections still same problem

Had washed. Now wont start at all no cranking whatsoever have tried to separately connect wire to engine from chassis / frame engine as I was told it could be this ground \ earth that is the problem but no joy

I am desperate for electrical wiring diagram to try and trace what I think must only be a short somewhere

Any help v v much appreciated

thanks

Adam, welcome to POA.
Up near the Blue Icon that says POST NEW TOPIC there is the word SEARCH, just below it to the right.
Click on that and type in wiring or hard start and you will gets tons of information immediately. That is a lot quicker than waiting for replies, especially since you are on a different time zone.

FEEL the cables going to the battery. UNDER the cable you might find a worn spot. Either that or you have a bad ground.
Do a search on "ground" for more info.

Here are a couple of links that you might find helpful...The first is a 193 page "on line" parts catalog...I suggest you save it in your computer...It's a great reference. I'm not sure if there is a wiring diagram in it, but take a look.
http://www.oskin.ru/pub/chrysler-dodge/manuals/Chrysler_Service_Parts_Catalog/ CD3/97-01/99PR.pdf

The next link will take you to the classified ads...I really reccommend that you buy the complete set of 4 from Gary..

They are a great source of almost anything you'd need to know about the Prowler..It's a "must have" as far as I'm concerned....Good luck

Same with me. "Service Engine" light would flash, wouldn't turn over, turned out to be the PCM. Dealer can tell you for sure. Look at about $1500 if the PCM is bad.

Go to a Chrysler dealer and they will run a diagnostic check that will tell you for sure. My '97 would run rough, die and wouldn't start or even turn over. If I let it set for a few hours it would start again and seem normal for a time. Finally it died for good when I left work after going about 50 feet. Work being 15 miles from the dealer I had my wife pull me with her Jeep (in a hard rain storm with no wipers) to the dealer. Luck was with us and we made it there OK. Don't let this happen to you it wasn't any fun. A PCM check at the dealer is easy and will at least put your mind to ease. Good luck.

If you live in England are there any Chrysler dealers there?

Some people own Prowlers in foreign countries where they can't get help from Chrysler dealers but it sounds to me like anyone who knows cars could help you troubleshoot this problem especially dealing with bad connections and such.

We tend to jump to conclusions and pick the most expensive parts to replace like the PCM which I have done myself and forget to start with the basics when troubleshooting. If you don't know cars at all you need someone to troubleshoot for you and diagnose the problem and if they find the problem give you an estimate on the repair costs. Taking it somewhere and say "Fix it" can be very expensive!

pedro,,,, this thread was started 10 months ago,,,posted 12-10-2010, so your talking to an **owner who most likely has had their problem fixed long ago.

Spoons was just asking for updated, new info on how to tell if the PCM is bad, or going out.

** If would be nice if an owner asks a question to their specific Prowler problem,,,and suggestions are offered here, that they report back to the forum with the final result of that problem. Many do, which is appreciated.

Just for a test, Hold the key in the START position, Move the gear shift from park to low just to make sure it is NOT the neutral safty switch, If it still doesn't start, check your ignition swich.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN THE EVENT IT DOES START.
