If you read the guys preamble, he's downright vicious lol

"This list of worst cars includes the type of automotive blunders, flops and utter failures that are largely the result of colossal management ineptitude, ego-maniacal incompetence and in many cases horrific design and engineering."

A lot of the cars he says are the worst I like the best. Just a matter of opinion.

I was talking with the then President of Chrysler while walking around an employee car show. He said that the rare Chrysler muscle cars today were versions that didn't run well on the street and that they ended up driving as field cars before selling them to dealerships at a discount. What started the conversation was a Hemi Cuda on display. He said that he had several and that none of them ran well on the street. The car to have on the street was the 440 six pack. On the race track the Hemi was the car to beat. Many dealerships changed the front ends on Plymouth Superbirds after the cars sat in stock for over a year.

I can remember driving a large number of Shelby V-8 Dakota pickups. I had something like 50 to drive at least 500 miles. These were the first V-8 mid-sized trucks and quick for their time. I'd have the dealership clean and prep a red one and then do a white one until they were all gone.

I don't think that Prowler ever faced that fate. Prowler was in demand with the biggest issue being dealers that added additional profit on the MSRP. Did anyone here buy a Prowler new at a distressed price? Did anyone receive a large consumer rebate when they bought their new car?

Read the stories today in the automotive media about the aluminum bodied 2015 Ford F150. You'll find small mention that the team that built Prowler migrated to Ford to help with the change over to the aluminum body. Prowler was built for fun. It was built to test new materials and production processes.

I ran into a number of executives from GM while at Autorama just after the announcement was made to build the car. They were interested if indeed we were going to build the car. They asked about the resources that were committed to build the car. I told them the number of staff and the investment and tooling. Their reply was that you couldn't build a car for either the small number of people or low investment. I told them to keep thinking that way. Chrysler brought the car to market with those staffing restraints, investment and pricing.

Compare Prowler to the muscle cars. Compare it to the cars in it's price range as to performance. Running the quarter mile in around 14.9 seconds at 90 - 91 MPH was nothing to be ashamed of. It wasn't a race car. Compared to the cars available today with 600+ HP it looks slow. But viewed in perspective it was nothing to be ashamed of.

Who else has brought you a two-set roadster with an aluminum body for $40K. How many cars have held their value as well? What's a '97 Vette or a 2000 BMW worth today?

Remember that opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. Are you going to let anyone influence how you feel about the car you wanted and purchased? Did you buy it because you didn't like it? Why justify it, enjoy it. JMO

Makes me mad when I hear about the whole "V8 vs V6" thing!!! My '99 V6 produces 253hp. And a '99 Mustang GT with the 5.0?? 260hp! Yes, only 260!! I gotta go take a pill.... (and) my car only weighs in at 2,800 lbs!! Andy

Well, this guy must hate me then. I own 3 Prowlers, a Hummer H2 and am looking at an SSR. My F450 Dually proudly sucks down more diesel every time I start it then he could ever imagine. He probably hasn't driven anything in his miserable life but a Prius.

Regarding the cost of my 1999 Prowler, the window sticker lists the MSRP base cost of $41,000 plus the options of chrome wheels ($1,000), paint ($1,000) and the dealership "Market Adjustment" of $13,000 for a grand total rip off price of $55,000.
Outrageous in my opinion !!!!

Just to set everyone's mind at ease, no I'm not the original owner.

I picked up my '97 in Jan. of '98 for the sticker price of $39,000. As soon as Chrysler announced they were going to build the car my dealer started taking $5,000 non-returnable deposits with the stipulation that the selling price was sticker. There were no paint or wheel options at that time. I had quite a wait.

Because some cluck doesn't like the Prowler is immaterial to me. I do. He probably drives around in a Prius.

I don't care what they say from my pint of view because I get it. But I don't like the spread of misinformation by people who are considered to be auto blo experts. I sent the cluk an email but it bounced back.

.

In my area the new '97 prowlers w/ trailer were marked up to $70-100,000.

On my '99, I don't recall the $1000 paint charge on the 'FACTORY' MSRP sticker.

In April of 99 we paid $45K for our Prowler. At the time I thought it was a good deal. As I recall the sticker was $40K. As to the article I couldn't say it better than RPL has already stated.

Had a friend that had a BMW Z1 and a Mercedes SLR in addition to a Prowler. He told me that the Prowler always got more attention than any of his other high dollar cars especially when he'd stop like at a gas station. They would come over and ask about the car. It used to piss him off that people didn't seem to notice his exotics.

I have owned quitea few different cars over the years and I'm not a Brand Loyalist, but like the different styles of cars. I wanted a prowler the first time I saw it. Took a few years, but finally got my 2000. I just wish that I still had all the cars I had bought in the past!! My first new car was a 1967 Corvette coupe when I was in the Army. I've owned 6 of the plastic cars, 4 of them were pre 68's, 72 pantera, Datsun 240z,70 Firebird trans am,76 porsche 912e. Currently 98 Mustang gt, 2011 Corvette GS, 69 Dodge Dart Swinger thats been in the family since new,45 years, 08 Dodge 3500 Resistol mega cab, and My garage queen 2000 Prowler. That's what's nice about being retired, get to spend more time rubbing on the cars. Just need a bigger garage now!!

I have to tell you that when the Pacer was first announced, I was an AMC dealer, and at the first 'announcement meeting' there was no actual Pacer there, only 'artist renderings'...and in the pictures it looked like an Italian sports car! All of the dealers placed orders for their full allotments... And a few months later we saw the 'production' vehicle... I sold the franchise shortly after that.
