Hi again everyone. Many thanks for the quick responses to my question yesterday about whether it would be crazy to own a Prowler in Hawaii. I was hoping everyone would say go for it, and you did, so I'll be feeling a bit more comfortable as I start my search for the right cat to bring over. Meanwhile, I do have some practical questions as well. I've searched online for ages and also watched numerous YouTube videos of Prowler reviews, but never got complete answers to these: 1) About how long does it take to raise the top? Where I live in Hawaii, we have lots of sun, but sudden brief rain showers are also fairly common even on the nicest of days (we have crazy micro-climates here). As such, I will need to be able to pull over and get the top up fairly quickly if it looks like I'm headed into a shower. 2) I understand the "trunk" is virtually useless, but is the open space at least wide enough to hold a few golf clubs (not in a golf bag, but just some loose irons and putters)? 3) I don't have intentions of making many mods once I get the car, but I would like to be able to listen to my iPhone through Bluetooth. I've seen some threads about this, but what are your recommendations for the best options for upgrading the stereo to something a bit more modern? 4) It looks like many of you recommend two primary mechanical modifications/updates: First, new window regulators, and second a Wwonder Bar". Once I purchase my cat on the mainland, if I buy it anywhere in the eastern U.S., I will likely take it for a road trip to California for shipping overseas, with a leg through Texas to visit family. Any recommendations in Texas (or anywhere in the South) for where to have these two items installed? 5) Lastly, I am about 90% sure my target car will be Inca Gold, although I could also get comfortable with Red or possibly one of the Black Tie editions. As for the Inca Gold, are there other owners here with the same color and if so, what is your experience with the paint job? Easy or difficult to maintain? Does it show scratches, etc. more than other colors? Thank you again for all your help. This is a great forum and I can't wait until I can start offering my own feedback to others! |

The first time you raise the top, it takes a couple of minutes. After you do it a few times you get a lot quicker, ESPECIALLY when it is raining. Literally, once you get out of the car it is a matter of less than a minute. There are two tie down straps, one on each side. If you have to go around to the passenger side, it will cost you a few seconds. If you have a passenger that can jump out and unclip that side, you could have it up in 10 seconds, probably. DON'T let the front of the top slam down on top of the windshield. There are plastic inserts that will break if you don't use reasonable care. They are not like glass, but if you don't use common sense, you can break them fairly easily. You can have the top up in place and get back in the car and clip the two clips from inside with the windows already up. Very simple, not time consuming at all. If it is raining and you are moving 50 MPH, you won't get wet. When you stop you will get wet, of course. We have driven through some pretty good showers when we could see it was going to be brief, or we had no where to pull over. A putter MAY fit in the trunk and maybe a wedge. I doubt if much more than that would fit. Put them on the passenger side, up against console if you are just taking a few clubs. You almost have to put the top down to put a full bag into the passenger side. you can then put the top up but it is not easy putting the bag inside with the top up. It can be done but it is a pain. |

I could not go across the island without getting wet on my motorcycle in 1980, that is why it is the rainbow state......LOL Think I bought my 350 4 Honda in the city you are living in Seen on the back of a Saturn Sky a golf bag carrier that hooked into the trailer hitch it was a hard shell and kept the bag upright. The top should always be strapped down, so thinking you could leave it unstrapped to make it quicker to raise will increase the risk of damage to the top. Have seen Marty Usher put his top down at stop light, really doesn't take that long to raise or lower once you get the hang of it and rain really decreases the time it takes to do the task. If you do plan on traveling in it for any time must pack light and in plastic bags or anything that can be put into small spaces. I can actually put more in the bags on my Goldwing than the trunk of the Prowler. Might be a good idea to try and find a car that someone has already did some of the mods. There was a black tie just sold that would have been a great deal for you with the mods that you would like to have. If you have room for a trailer might be good to get a package deal. You might not need it in Hawaii, but would be helpful here on mainland. Color is preference, black would be the only color that I would say takes special care to keep scratches to a minimum. The inca Gold isn't one that was real popular with many owners but it is still a good looking car. We all tease each other on what color is best, but glad they made more that just purple Prowlers. Good luck on finding the car of your dreams. ------------------ |

quote: Dale is correct Bob is one of the most helpful for everything Prowler. He helps people buy cars, sell cars and stuff. He also has had no longer available parts reproduced for the owners and diecast cars in the correct prowler colors for us to buy by the case. not sure what he has left but he might. Have some items a new owner would want or need. If he says this is a good car you can trust his discription to a tee. He was in upper management for Chrysler and had a lot to do with the car, so he knows what he is talking about in all aspects of the car. If you were wanting the window regulators and wonderbar if they are not on this one he can proably make arrangements to get them installed for you if this is the car for you. He has in the past taken delivery of an overseas owner and made arrangements to get it serviced before he came to drive it on an event then ship it overseas. |

I installed a trailer hitch, then went online and found a golf bag holder that fits into the receiver. The bag holder I bought has room for two bags but I needed to use a reducer so it would fit in the receivers hole. This reduced the maximum tounge weight by 1/2. As a result I can only carry one golf bag, but that works just fine for me. This message has been edited by dskatt on 07-01-2016 at 07:34 PM |

You guys are awesome with the quick responses. I'd love to get that Inca Gold that RPL is selling right now, but those conditions I agreed with my wife include me receiving a payout from my former company that won't happen until January. Maybe I'll be lucky and that one won't sell until then... |

Well, she is a loving wife for sure, but also super conservative when it comes to money (Japanese gal who doesn't understand at all why someone needs a two seat car... with virtually no trunk... when we have a family of 3....). In Japan, they say the wife is the Ministry of Finance in the family (in other words, she controls the money, no matter who earns it). I do have to defer to her in this case because it was her influence on our money management that actually enabled us to retire relatively young in Hawaii, so if that means waiting a few extra months to get my dream car, I think I will just have to grin 'n' bear it. I sure wish though that I could find a Prowler here in Hawaii that we could take out for a spin. Maybe that would help her understand why we *need* one. I've checked all the rental places and it seems like none have Prowlers in inventory anymore. |

Oh, and she also insisted that when I do finally locate the car I want (after meeting the other pre-conditions), that I don't just buy it without going to test-drive it first. I tried to appeal to her financial prudence here by saying it'll cost $1000 to fly wherever I need to go. That's an expensive test drive, isn't it? Of course she logically replied that it's better to spend $1000 and be sure, than to spend $30,000 and regret the purchase. It was hard to argue with her logic (telling her that I am confident I will like the way the car feels and that based on all the YouTube videos I have watched, I *know* how it drives, didn't convince her....) |

Sometimes you are better off letting her have her way. Lol I always hate hearing that, "I told you so." It is a very exciting time looking for the right Prowler, enjoy the chase. I bought mine on eBay from pictures and had it delivered 1000 miles and never drove one. It was a very exciting time in my life to say the least. |

Where ever you locate the car you want to buy in the USA there will be a POL member near there who would be happy to go look at your car, test drive it and check out any thing about it you may be concerned about. Save your $1000 travel money. There are friends waiting and wanting to help you. |

That golf club case is some seriously cool kit! And the color of the car looks great too. Is that the Candy Red? Our family's practical car is a Lincoln MKC in Ruby Red. A Prowler in a similar color might make a nice matching pair in the garage. There's a 2002 on eBay right now with about 10K miles. Looks sweet. I don't think I will have to worry about my wife being able to see out of the car. Although Japanese, she's a little taller than the average J girl and has great posture. I think she sits higher in seats than I do! |

I work at the plant that built your MKC, depending on what year it is and the shift it was built on I could have either put a part on it or even drove it in the factory. As stated there are Prowler owners everywhere and most of us willing to help out. If you search Piddler screen name and find his Pearl white car, it was red in north central Indiana and he is in Alabama (I think) he bought it basicly site unseen. I drove up to look at it, test drove it then called him while driving it and then again after we left and was driving home. Eddie ended up flying into Indianapolis, took delivery of the car and drove it home. At that point he disassembled it and painted it the stunning Pearl white you see today. ------------------ |

I'm really in this Red & Gold phase right now in my life. I just finished remodeling a spare bedroom into my Man Cave a couple of months ago, totally in Red and Gold tones (my wife even likes it). If only she could realize how nice it would look to have Red & Gold together in the garage. (BTW, the MKC is a 2015 model -- you guys built a great car!) |

I noticed seat height mentioned and don't know if you know that the drivers seat moves back and forth and the seat back tilts but it also has a height adjustment just so you know. The passenger seat is not adjustable for elevation. |

I know everyone says to strap the top down, but in 12 years and 23000 miles I've never done it. Prowler has 52000 miles, not sure if 1st owner strapped or not. No sign of wear that I can see. You can get a lot of stuff in trunk, it just can't be anything over 4-5" thick. if you use soft luggage or compression bags you can get a lot in there. I wouldn't replace regulators just to do it. My 99 Purple with 17000 miles, I've had to fix both sides. My 01 Blue with 52000 has had no problems. Go figure, you would think it would be the other way. Well, thanks to all of your enthusiastic responses and guidance, I got motivated to renegotiate with my better half and we agreed I can go ahead and get my Kat this summer. I've struck a deal with a private seller and will plan to pick up my car in early August. Will post an update after inspection and keys are in hand! |
