My factory sound system is picking up engine noise. It increases as engine revs higher. It goes away when I turn off the stereo. What should I look for to fix it?
Thanks

Sounds like ignition interference. What year is the car? If it's a '99 could be spark plug wires or plug caps. I'm not familiar with the whole '99 setup, but if there's a distributor, could be a bad capacitor.

I was a little wrong there, it's the 97's that have the distributor and plug wire setup. 99-02 have a coil on plug system. Likely interference candidates are ignition system, charging system, fuel injection. Somebody may be able to point you to a more detailed fault. Could be a breakdown in insulation or grounding in any of the above systems.

Remove the radio and make sure the ground wire to radio is clean and the connection is tight.

Sounds like a classic case of a bad ignition capacitor

I battled this problem for many years. I replaced the Capacitors on the engine. I checked all the Ground connections. Then I just didn't listen to the radio for a long time. Then, after doing another search on POA after several years I saw an entry that stated that the engine noise goes away when the car is shifted into REVERSE. (I don't remember who that was). In any case, I verified that this was my exact scenario and I was shocked to say the least.
That's when I decided to replace the OEM Radio. I had it done at a local Stereo shop complete with steering wheel controls, new door speakers, etc. The noise problem went away immediately. Now I can listen to whatever I want via Bluetooth. SiriusXM, Pandora , Spotify, etc. No more CDs. Took the CD Changer OUT of the vehicle. The NEW Unit had a USB connection in the rear which I hooked up into the Center Console to connect a Thumb Drive that holds the music from our CD Collection. The USB connection in the front of the Stereo charges and connects to the phone. NO Apple Carplay or Android Auto but I didn't care about that (and still don't.)
Best $$ I ever spent.

Hope this helps
Scott

Thank you all. Will check to see if the noise will stop if in reverse and go from there.

After I installed an aftermarket radio, I started having engine noise. I ended up figuring out that the antenna connector had come loose. Years later, same thing and it was the same reason. Check the wires in the back of your unit!

I have the same issue, not sure if I had it before aftermarket radio.
I checked car antenna to the radio, it's connected tight.

let us know, if and how you fixed it.
