It quit on me again last night in the middle of traffic. I coasted into a restaurant. It would not crank. So by midnight, the wrecker/flatbed had downloaded our Kat at the dealership.

Now the shop is telling me I need a ECM. That will set us back a little over a grand (for the part alone). That's $1,000 for those who don't know. RPL (who else?) has offered to help me with his discount. I made it clear to the Service Manager at the Chrysler dealership I didn't mind paying for it as long as this cured the problem of stalling/no cranking. If it continues, I'm gonna' be a very unhappy camper!

He responded that there is no signal out of the module for the ignition, starter, or fuel pump. All indications point to it.

This is getting old real quick! We will put a lot of test miles on it when we get it back. Woodward is the LAST PLACE I'd want a reoccurance!

did'nt I see a post from prowl97 for ecm's for 200.00, personally the next thing I would replace the asd relay, I have replace hundreds of them for this symptom, and at around 20.00 it's a cheap fix.

Ed: I went through this same exact issue with my 1997 for months. I had the exact same symptoms, it happened over and over. I'm glad that my car was still under warranty, they replaced the PCM twice hoping that it would fix the issue. Replacing the PCM did nothing, the problem wasn't fixed until after they check and improved every connection on the wiring harness.

Save your money, have them go through all of the wiring first! Tighten everything up and use dielectric grease, that will fix your issue!!!

It is my understanding the ASD relay recieves it's signal from the PCM. If this is true (and I don't know that it isn't), there is no signal from the PCM to the ASD (according to the Service Manager).

Accordng to Jeff Hunter, the 97's do not have the remanufactured PCM, just the '01 & '02's.

But are they interchangable with a '97?

they are not interchangeable.they stopped selling new ones 3 to 4 years ago for th 99s,so i would assume the 97 also.best way to find out is call the dealer.dont understand chrysler.they have after about 2 years or so,stopmaking and discontinue new engines and related electrical parts, and engine parts.you can go to a gm dealer and buy a 10 year old new engine if you needed it.not dc remans only.if you wanted to buy a brand new 3.5 forget it.
they only produce so many new ones.there remans are absolute crap, and i speak from experince.

It will be late Tuesday evening or Wednesday at the soonest when & if I get the car back. They've had it since Aug 6th. Woodward seems such a far away goal. Especially when you live 54 miles from there & don't feel like meeting everyone while driving your Taurus..............

I remember it well. For a while there, we all thought your were part of the entertainment that Bob & CJ arranged. That is until the blood from your knee started flowing..........

Ed, to you it is a Taurus, to the POA running Woodward it is a nicely disguised support vehicle.

Good luck getting yours back.
