401KAT POA Site Supporter Prowler Junkie From:dequincy, Louisiana, United States Registered: May 2016 Admin Use	posted 04-27-2018 06:11 PM Got a 2000 model rarely driven last 2 yrs...Started driving couple months ago....Car had a stutter when throttling ...not all the time ..Also when car sat 15 min or so it would crank but run rough for 15-20 secs and then straighten out and idle fine..Went threw the threads on here...checked fuel pressure and didnt like readings so installed new tom mills unit...same problem...changed crank sensor...no change...changed cam sensor...stuttering went totally away...BUT still have hot start issue...did leakdown on new pump..dropped 20 lbs in 14 hrs which is within spec...frustrated cause car runs like my others now except hot start....ONLY thing I noticed is temp gauge jumps to 3/4 when having hot start problems and then returns to normal as car clears out and idles again...ANYONE??
401KAT POA Site Supporter Prowler Junkie From:dequincy, Louisiana, United States Registered: May 2016 Admin Use	posted 04-27-2018 07:39 PM Just got back from 40 mile "running hard" drive...ran flawless...10 min stopped in my shop...cranked ...coughed and ran rough for 15 secs..at same time temp went from 3/4 back to 1/2 in same 15 secs...weird....noticed cruise light flashed back on when running rough..then went out...also 1st time check engine lite on and flashing...would not go out till i stopped and recranked...weird again...sounds "fuelish" but now I'm not sure either temp related or grounds....temp during driving is normal....jim

The first thing that comes to mind is an ignition problem. As in, either your coilpack, HT leads (the cable running from the coilpack to the spark plug) or a spark plug is faulty. THe symptoms are consistent with what you describe. Would bad ignition go away after initial startup like what the OP described. Yes. In the early stages at least. My car behaved like that at first, then got progressively worse until I replaced the coilpack. �

Pull those first and see what they say. May help point you in the right direction.

Yeah my obd II is out on loan....going to check for those...Robin changed all plugs ...before the cam sensor made the stuttering disappear...Has to have something to do with heat...Have fun tomorrow joe and others on the church run...got to much going on to get over that far...jim

Without turning key on. If an injector leaks down or O-rings leaks one or more cylinders could be flooded and make for a very hard start.

Agreed but car idles perfect hot or cold UNTIL it sits 10-15 mins after driving...Would think vacuum leak would show at idle other times....But I will check...thanx
mine2 Prowler Enthusiast From:Portage, MI Registered: Jan 2007 Admin Use	posted 05-08-2018 09:28 PM When you replace the Cam or Crank Sensors, make sure they are OEM only. I had this problem and talked with a Chrysler Mechanic in California and was told to USE ONLY OEM ELECTRONIC PARTS ONLY. I changed out the crank and cam sensors with OEM and it solved my issues... Hope you find your issue...

Hope you find your issue... The cam sensor change did fix the surging under throttle. Still working on hot start....

My current Prowler stuttered and had hot restart problems that were caused by a bad TCM computer. It was damaged from a wire in the wiring harness not being grounded properly. On my first Prowler the hot start trouble was caused by an issue with one of the coil packs.

Thats were i'm looking now Marty....and no smoke on hot start...I have a mechanic friend who swears by 44k injector cleaner...running it thru now to see if it is injector....It is less frequent right now...I bought this car to eventually resale but I'm anal about my cars so I wont sell until I've got it fixed...Never leaves U...just annoying....This car will make someone a nice daily...paint not perfect...but drives out nice....jim
