Has anyone had to replace an inner tie rod before; and if so, was it a pain or fairly easy? |

By inner tie rod, what are you talking about? I may have a match for you. But if it was damaged from dealer failure to perform the recall on the new arm when installing, get the whole rack new at dealer expense. This message has been edited by idive on 02-06-2010 at 01:23 AM |

The inner tie rod extends from the bellows at the ends of the rack. The one on the drivers side has play in it. I've been searching for just the inner tie rod but it appears that I'll have to buy the whole rack. |

The inner part just screws into the rack. There is no part to create play. It's either loose or the rack is the problem. Anyone with a chrome front end had to remove this part for chroming. Pull the boot away and hold the ball joint end behind the boot with channel locks and then you can unscrew the rod. Check with Gary Empfield for details. gary@prowlerproducts.com |

I've been trying to avoid the dealer cost. ($1300+) Tomorrow I'll pull the boot and take a closer look to see if it's the Tie rod or the rack. I did find a re-manufactured rack from Rack&Pinion Warehouse for 179 + Core. |

I had my driver side inner tie rod replaced back in Aug 09 ... It was rough trying to find just the inner tie rod since it shows that you have to replace the whole steering rack . However Don Ward ( 832) 717 - 4977),was able to find a part to fit and so far so good . Here is the info ... Mopar Steering Tie Rod part # MR519046 This part came from an 01 - 05 2 door Stratus Cost for part $72.20 Good Luck .... ~ Sugar ~ {Oops I've corrected the Phone #} Thanks Mickey ! Also the inner tie rod will be a different color than the original rod ...Its lighter in color This message has been edited by ivegotsugar on 02-11-2010 at 01:09 AM |

I might be wrong, sugar, but I show Don's number you listed was his fax number. I show his shop number to be 832-717-4977. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the info. I thought I had that, but couldn't find it anywhere. |

I just installed the new tie rod and it's working fine. That was great info. Saved enough money to spend it on some accessory instead of necessities |

I found some old literature that stated that the steering rack is a modified minivan rack. What the modifications are I am not sure of. |

MDProwler I was told the same thing , however after trying to compare the mini van rod sizes, one was too long and the other rod was too short. After a week or so days of trying to locate a rod to fit ,Finally the only rod that came close was the 01 - 05 2 Dr Stratus .Belive me when I say that the parts guy at the dealership took my rod and sized it up to everything he had in stock ,it was long and tedious , but he accomplished the task ...I'm glad we have Don Ward here in Houston . |
