JRLKat was at the dealer for an oil change and a "slight click" when turning the wheel especially when cold.
Dealer said it was the Clock spring and it would be around $350 or so.
Needles to say I was floored. But being in the business I asked some mechanics that do work for me. They couldn't understand why it would go bad at 4K miles!
The clock spring is what holds the air bag in and job need to be carefully done.
I'll live with the very small clunk every so often for a while.
Has this happened to anyone here?
JRL Red 99, 4K miles
Dave MillsThere have been other posts on this, I am pretty sure. I have not noticed it on my '99.......yet
catfishmy 99 does it occasionally,i just live with it.

WildCatI had a noise in my wheel when turning. They ended up changing the clock spring in it

It was under warranty at the time.

The car was fairly new and the noise has not come back

Mike KrehelI've gone through 2 clock springs in my Black Tie with less than 400 miles on the car. The symptoms when it breaks are - airbag light comes on and cruise control/radio buttons stop working on the steering wheel.

2coldMy clock spring just snapped and my '01 only has 2750 miles.
Black Tie 161Great...another thing to worry about.

At least we can be thankful we don't have the cheap-*** GM WINDOW REGULATORS. the new GM cars are unable to hold the windows up....The new window regs (new cheaper design) are so bad they are failing on NEW cars that haven't even got off the lot yet!!!

obi-wanThe replacement "clock spring" is an upgrade to the orig. I think its of a Neon(not sure) I've seen several of these done. It's a trick to replace but any trained Chrysler tech should be able to do it correctly. It only happens to some Kats and it is not predictable-it just appends. Best to pay the price and let a trained tech do it. obi-wan
ed monahanMy clock is digital and there is no spring. lol
