GenoTexPosting the following two pics with this information:

The first pic shows the hood fully raised, with the yardstick sitting on the top of the grill... showing around 38-40 inches fully open. The second pic shows the 'resting' balanced opening to be at about 28 inches... the point at which the hood is 'balanced' between open and closed on its own.

For what it's worth

Stephen FennerPOA Members,
Please be aware that the Group Purchase on these Prowler Hood Supports both in Black and in Polished Stainless style, is still available.
Thank you to those who have supported our product.

Randy CobbGeno-

I know what you mean.

When we bought my wife's Mercedes SUV 6 years ago, the guy gave her a FREE hat. Or was it a free SUV and a 40 grand hat?LOL

eileen gugyIs there any concern with the stiffness doing damage to the hood.. Obviously they are much stronger than stock. Thanks
GenoTexnone whatsoever eileen. .. give stephen a call, he can talk to you in depth about it, but tried/tested on prowlers and his pressure is calibrated on each set that goes out the door.
redheet55Congrats on the upgrade. I put the stainless ones on and it took about 10 minutes flat (okay, I went to the fridge and grabbed a beer during that time too). Steve is a great guy to work with and supports us well. My ONLY CONCERN is the price. Ouch on the stainless. But man do they work well!!

I agree! The prices are way too high.
I should be able to help with the pricing soon.

I deal with many vendors for these type items. I never wanted to spend the time involved in these props but it bothers me that a non-paying/advertising vendor is selling products at a substantially above a fair market value on the POA.
Hold onto your money for a while guys. I'm working on it.
Stainless and black should be available at a much reduced cost.

Larry Lord has been a Prowler owner as long as I have. He has made many QUALITY products and at a reasonable price to help his fellow Prowler owners improve or maintain their car. I'm glad I'm not the only one to think this group purchase is a little high. I tried to get the shipping cost to Indiana from them. They wanted me to call. Well they knew the zip code to ship them to so they could have given me a total price from that.

From what I seen the shipping they are charging I could buy one shock for that locally. And the discounted price for the black I could buy 2 sets. I have seen where they check the pressure to make sure they are correct. I'm sure this is correct that time is the big enemy with these gas shocks. So a shock that has been on the car or on a shelf will have similar life. Temperture plays a big part as they age too.

I got an e mail after I posted I replaced the shocks on my trailer for $45. I was able to pick from 4 different ratings. I have not checked to see what the hood shocks would cost, but my guess it would be about the same. My truck topper shocks also $45 a pair.

IF it cost me $80 for black and $20 for shipping for a $100 total and I can buy locally for $45 and have to buy them twice as often that leaves me $10 for the gas money to go pick them up (GOOD THING IT IS ONLY 6 MILES)In my truck at 15mpg city I will use 1 gallon of fuel if I make a special trip and at $2.90 a gallon. I'M STILL MONEY AHEAD BUYING LOCALLY.

I also have the prop rod on my car. I added the gas shocks with a Tom Mills Gas shock conversion kit. So I have not changed the shocks since I have a back up. But I plan on changing them soon. I will let everyone know the part number and cost at my local Car Quest, unless Larry comes up with a better price.

Yes, you can buy a Kia for less than 10 grand, they seem to be selling well in my area.

I have bought or hired out work on bids for years. I do not believe in the lowest bid. I BELIVE IN GETTING THE BEST VALUE FOR THE MONEY. Sometimes it is the lowest bid. sometimes it is the highest bid.

IF the shocks from LST would last 3X longer than off the shelf at 2X the monry it would be a deal. If it cost the same, locally is the place to get them as you need then without th shipping.

Since I work for FORD, I would not drive a Kia, but many people can not afford better. They have stole the style from all the other makers worldwide. If in the market for a new vehicle and was comparing best value for the money it could be it though.

My 2 Cents

Larry LordJust an FYI to all,

  • My car doesn't even use this item.
  • I make MUCH more money at my regular job that I do trying to help out the Prowler Owners.
  • I really don't care what people spend for props but I'm trying to help the owners get a better deal. Not everyone here has money to burn.
  • I may not be able to get a supply of these props but I think I can. Only time will tell. If you need props or consider them some type of safety item, by all means replace yours at this time. if not, just hang onto your money for a while and see what I can do.
  • If my cars used these props, I could replace them 3-5 times for the price of one pair of LS props.
Stock props are a better value in my mind but that's just my opinion.
  • I looked into this item a few years back and decided there was just not enough call for the props to warrant my time to make a very small profit. Little did I know at that time, just how much people would be willing spend for gas props.
  • I usually spend more time on the phone, taking an order and talking with the owner than I can justify with my marginal profits on Prowler items.
  • Every one of my products is something I felt I needed. That's why I made them in the first place. When others saw my idea or product, they sometimes asked to purchase them. This led me to go into production of a few of the more popular items.
  • As Gary Empfield stated in the frame cover post. I sometimes make products for other vendors. I am not in this for the bucks but if I can make a few, that's OK.
  • I prefer to make quantities of parts for other vendors because it takes me too long to take orders and process shipping of individual items.
  • Advertising cost per customer exposure is very expensive on this website. I'm sure I can get much more exposure and sell many more itmes at much less cost by using ebay.
  • So Far, I've only sold my products on the POA website. That will change if I decide to go back into production. There just isn't enough business here to justify the production and advertising cost in limited quantities.
  • Due to discontinued Prowler production and market saturation, my market is growing smaller every day.
  • After investing a big bundle of money in my shock and spring project, I gave up. I still think I can make it work but since last July, I just don't have any time to devote to it. I apologize to anyone that has been inconvenienced by my slow progress.
  • Once more. I don't do this for the bucks. I do it to try to help out my friends and the other owners.
  • I'm VERY close the ceasing production of most of my Prowler products due to the above mentioned reasons.
  • FMB (my real job and business) is currently 58.7% above last year in gross sales with net profits running almost 100% above last year. We've been doing that kind of business even with one less employee than I had last year.
  • I am not taking any vacation this year and have not had the time to organize any Prowler events for the last 12 months. I really enjoyed making the events happen and am now happy to see that others are taking over the reins.
  • I'm expanding my business. My current building is 7200 square feet. I just submitted plans to design review for my new 8300 square foot building which will not only house a portion of my manufacturing plant but will also include a seperate PERSONAL garage and hobby shop of 3345 square feet. I hope to have this building up by mid 2007 but even if I can get it built, I'm not sure if I will be able to find the time to set it up or use it.

Geno,
Please don't take this personally. I know you spent a lot of time to find this vendor.
If I can get the props (and I think I can), I'll be very happy to send them to you in bulk and let you sell them at any price you feel comfortable with. I have no doubt about the quality of the LS props but I can assure that mine will be comparable or even better. Even if they only were to last only 2/3 as long but are sold at one half the price they would be a better value for your dollar. My point is that the current prices are just too damn high and the profit is going to a vendor that doesn't even advertise on the site.
If LS decides to drop their prices to something more realistic, I'll be more than happy to back away from this prop deal.
Peace be with you my friend!

MDProwlerAnd I'm still using my ONE Ford Explorer strut for $20 at Advance Auto I bought two years ago. Works fine and holds the hood all the way up to it's stops. Actually I filed the stops back and it opens several inches further. The hood opens to 42"
