Dali	Well, being a new owner, I have poured over the "How-to's" and advise postings for 2 weeks now. What I'm about to say, many of you may already know, but I have not read it before, so I'll say it anyway. Got my mud flaps today. Have alot of speedbumps in my area, and uneven road surfaces. Made the decision to trim them 3/4-7/8". I first did like everyone else who has trimmed. I used a sharp carpet knife, and scored many times. I then bent the piece backwards from the score mark, and used the carpet knife to slice through. My problem was that I am VERY picky. The few minor imperfections (bumps) were screaming at me. So here's what I did. I took the flaps to my bench grinder. Standard 6" abrasion wheel, and VERY GENTLY grinded the imperfections down. When I say Gently, I mean, don't sneeze or you'll be buying new flaps. I got the perfect, except for the "fuzzies" grinders make with plastic. So after brushing most off by hand, I took it to my drill press, and buffed the edges with a "medium" Jewelers buffing wheel. End result: If I had opened the Mopar box, and pulled them out that way, I would have never known thae difference. Extra 7/8" clearance, for the days my wife drives the car... ALLEY CAT	Dali - I took 1 1/4" off my flaps,,,,,,,,has never rubbed on a speed bump yet. Hope this ruins your day and sleep loss for tonight,,,trying to decide if you ought to take another 3/8s off, lol. If the pondering leads you to remove more, go ahead and take off 25/64's to be safe! Chromer and I will be seeing you and Jo-Jo at the Texas event in June, and we'll be measuring the exact amount taken off those flaps! BTW - bring extra cleaning, detail supplies to that event,,,,,,newbies are required to detail the cats belonging to long standing POA membership owners ------------------ Call 911 - there is a Prowler in my garage.... CTProwler	Never trimmed mine, i like all the protection i can get. If they get ruined i have 4 extra sets sitting in the garage!!Not ruined one yet in first 15 months! You guys, go slow over them, how much damage can you do one wheel at a time! ------------------

Dali	Well Alley Cat, in that case, my wife would be the actual owner... I know what I should do. Tonight when I cant sleep, thinking of removing another 25/64th", maybe I should just go around town and steal the speed bumps???... Honestly though, it wasn't really the speed bumps as my biggest worry, it was alot of talk about sucking my fender off if backing up that pushed me over the edge. I am very picky, and my prowler is more my baby than my Ferrari(Gone now) ever was. Unfortunately, there all just cars to my wife.(even though she has to drive a Mercedes)??? Go figure. Besides, all in all, it gave me a chance to finally use my new bench grinder. If it wasn't the mud flaps, it would have been something else... ALLEY CAT	Mike - good thought on the sucking up of the fender due to backing up with mud flaps/pothole/situation. I actually seen this happen to another owner parked next to me once. Not a pretty sight, and can ruin your day.
MDProwler	I can attest to that Ruined my day for sure. They have been sitting on the bench since. I'll probably put them back on before spring but I will be much more careful in the future. WAYNEW	74,000 miles with no problem on stock mud flaps, I can not imagine what you do to brake off the mud flap? I would rather replace my fender than fix rock chips in the side of my car!!! ------------------

MADMAX	GEEZ....... don't make it so complicated...... used my girlfreinds sewing scissors to trim my flaps.... no rough edges,clean cut,painted and clearcoated to match the fastest kitty.... BLACK ....... MAX
Bob Miller	I did not trim my flaps. I read many posts on POA about the pros and cons of trimming and not trimming. I finally decided that I wanted all the protection possible for the side of my Prowler and second, I inch over speed bumps anyway so why trim... My flaps do scrape a little, but it's a small price to pay in comparison to getting the side of the car repainted. By the way, one of the small nuts on one of my front flaps seems to have come off. I used lockbolt or similar, but I apparently didn't do it properly. Anyone know the nut size off hand?

Anyone know the nut size off hand? You ask a VERY controversial question. Suffice it to say that either 1/4"-28 or 6mm x 1 Nylocs work equally well.
PHAT-KR	Hi all, I just installed the flaps on my '02 a few weeks ago and have been hitting the speed bumps in the parking garage at the office. They use those plastic speed bumps and I hit them every time no matter how slow I go over them. I was just about to post a question about this on the board and found this thread. I was more concerned about damaging the fender it self because of how hard they are hitting. I was wondering if anyone was cutting their flaps and now I see that I am not the only one and that others are cutting them. I am glad this board exists. GRROWL	Just to add more controversy to this post, the fenders can be rotated forward. Some say it's a quarter-inch, some say 2". Some say you need to drill out the holes on the supports to the next drill size to get the full 2". Just thought I'd mention it to add some fuel to the fire (and add some options). -GRROWL

idive	Instead of hitting the speed bumps head on, try going at them at about a 45* angle if you can. ALLEY CAT	Mickey - better yet,,,try hitting the speed bumps head on at 85 mph? The front wheels will launch you airborne and clear the front and rear flaps before landing. Whatza think?
CJ	Have mud flaps on both my cats. Haven't had any problems. A little dragging on the speed bumps I can't avoid (and I avoid all at all costs), but no damage caused. It will save your fenders alright, but, how do you think I got my nose scrapes?
ALLEY CAT	Hmmmmmmmm,,,maybe you need to keep the fuel tank full and a extra 100 lbs of Prowler backup parts in the trunk for weight distribution? On my landings,,,I usually have to worry about the trailer hitch plug scraping the pavement.

The reason you hitch plug scrapes is because you do not have the wing from metal crafters on the back. ------------------
ALLEY CAT	Good thought Wayne,,,,I have a wing from a Chrysler 300M, but haven't installed it yet. I'm also considering those lexan stone guards like they use on the front of the Dakotas,,,,mounting them on the front fenders to create more stable lift. Maybe a mini-parachute?
