binsterOK.. I know. I know.. make sure the bolts are all the way in.. (Had to say that, since I'm sure someone will remind me)..

Was pulling my steering wheel tonight, and geese it was tight. I was using a breakerbar to crank the center bolt. Thing would not budge.. I sprayed oil, etc.. Then blam, I pulled the thread from one side. I'll tap it tomorrow..

How much torque should be used to break this thing loose. I was afraid to use an impact gun on it.. But is that the best way?,

Any suggestions?

PiddlerI would say, if you used a impact to start with, that would have been best, but guess your pass that now.
You talked about a tap, I think I would get a new nut then go get a die nut to run over the threads on the shaft.
If you start back on and the threads are not good, it could seize up then you would be in a bigger mess.
Also, lube the threads before you put the new nut back on.

binsterThanks piddler.. the threads I pulled out were on the steering wheel where you put the bolts for the steering wheel puller. That was why I was saying it needed to be tapped. The steering wheel shaft is fine, and I shouldn't have any problems putting the nut for the wheel back on.
The breaker bar was being used on the steering wheel puller center bolt.. not the nut holding the wheel on.. I had no problems removing that.

So it's normal for the wheel to be this tight?

toysWhen you put the puller back on get it fairly tight & then try whacking the center bolt on the puller with a sharp rap from a hammer it may just pop off.

1buddycKen, if I remember right the tapped holes ( 2 holes) that you use to pull the Steering Wheel with are blind holes... I dont think you will be able to re-tap it deep enough to restore the threads so you can finish pulling the steering wheel. If that's the case, then drill the hole completely through and use the puller bolt and a Nut ( nut on the back side). And try to get access to an Impact Gun to finish pulling it off. The shock from the Impact as well as it's constant torque will pull it right off. And yes, some are tighter than others.
Dont worry about drilling the hole out as that wont ruin your original Steering Wheel. If you have any other problems, give me a call. Buddy

binsterall - Thanks for replies.. I was able to tap with a 7/16 -14 and pull it off with an impact wrench. There was plenty of depth for tapping, just had to be careful on drilling so close to clock spring.
