John Colewhen the car is cold ie set overnight and start the car, put it in reverse there is a clicking sound. i can shift back and forth, park then reverse back to park a few times and the sound goes away. it also goes away when the car gets warm. it's the same sound you would hear in an older car if you turned the steering wheel all the way to either the left or right. therefore i thought it might be the power steering, but why the sound just going into reverse any ideas
catfishthe clicking sound is from the rocker arms and is normal on a prowler,if it doesnt go away then you better worry.

John Colethanks catfish, can always count on you for info
catfishthe only other clicking sound from a cat is the output shaft bearing.mopar did have a fix for the lifter noise, which if i remember was some kind of a pad, cushion,i also remember that some owners that had the fix done it didnt always help.if i havent driven mine in about a week, when its started that noise will occur, but goes away in about 3 seconds when the oil pressure builds up.i dont think its anything to worry about unless its none of the above.also the upper idler pulley has also been known to make noise, but its not a clicking sound.

stevedymoCheck the transmission fluid level to be safe. Does the clicking sound come from the front or rear of the car?
phil2237If it were the ROCKER ARMS the noise goes away in seconds, If your noise is not going away until engine is warm, Best to have it checked. On Chrysler Transmissions, They do click at times INSIDE the transmission as the detent pin is trying to find the lockout inside the trans, which sounds like what you are hearing. This IS NOT DOING ANY DAMAGE. You can add a can of STP to the engine, run the car for a few minutes then let it sit a day, and restart, The STP WILL take away lifter clattter for a few months, Then change the oil & readd another bottle. This will let you know if it is the lifters making the noise or you may be looking for something else. The noise can also be coming from the driveshaft, so check as soon as possible.

I have the valve clatter on mine, I took it to Chrysler & they did the update, still does it, Use 1 bottle of STP between oil changes & the noise is now gone. Windy City Prowler had the same problem, He used the STP & his noise was gone also...Worth a try. The STP will NOT do any damage to your engine, it is just an additive.

John Colethanks for all the info
ALLEY CAT

I've had three Prowlers,,,,all have made that noise when first starting and putting in reverse gear....lasts just a few seconds, and then goes away. Comes from the transaxle components in our cats.. No idea why?
No big deal....as I never had a problem from it.

Marty UsherI hear the same clicking every morning when I back out of the garage in my Sebring convertibel with Autostick tranny. It almost sounds like a loose lugnut oir rock in a hubcap except my car doesn't have hubcaps. As others have said I was told it is normal for Chrysler automatics.
