This message has been edited by bbcar on 08-26-2004 at 03:14 PM According to the 2000 Service Manual, you need at least one working remote to do the procedure yourself. Otherwise, it looks like the dealer with the Chrysler-specific DRBIII tool. Here's the referenced procedure: Here's the procedure from the 2000 Service Manual: -GRROWL FWIW -GRROWLJOES_PROWLN Can you program a alarm/keyless entry remote without a working remote or will I have to take it to a dealer? bbcar To the best of my knowledge you need a drb to
program your keyless entry, any Chrysler or Dodge
dealer will have one.

Yes, you can program the key fob yourself - IF IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAR (actually, you can't change anything in the key fob, you need to program the car to accept it).

PROGRAMMING REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) MODULE
(1) Using a functional key fob transmitter, unlock the vehicle and disarm the Vehicle Theft/Security System.
(2) Insert ignition key into the ignition switch.
(3) Turn the ignition switch to RUN position without starting engine.
(4) Using a previously programmed transmitter, press the UNLOCK button for 5-10 seconds. While the UNLOCK button is being pressed, press the PANIC button (added note - hold the UNLOCK button for 5-10 seconds BEFORE pressing the PANIC button) and then release both buttons simultaneously. You will hear a chime sound to signal you that programming on the new transmitter(s) may occur.
(5) You may program up to 4 transmitters for your vehicle within a 30 second timed window. Press and release both lock and unlock buttons of a transmitter at the same time. Then press any of the buttons once, you will hear a beep when the transmitter has been successfully programmed. A chime will sound when the 30 seconds is over, or if you turn the ignition switch off.
(6) Verify RKE system operation using each key fob.

Really not too bad.GRROWL On a related note (as a public service announcement) there are some cars (not Chryslers that I know of, definitely some Fords, specifically my 2003 Ford Escape) that require TWO WORKING KEYS in order to program others yourself. Charges as high as $250 have been reported to program a new key if someone loses or damages one of the two keys that came with the car. As a heads up, if you have any cars with chips in the key, you would be well-advised to find out the procedure to add others (or, just get an extra or 2 to be safe).
