billy the moot | Just a bit of information which may help someone in the future...... One day this summer I was driving the kat and smelled gasoline badly!! As I was turning the corner the car stalled out. I opened the hood and didn't see anything that looked wrong or out of place. Looked under the car, nothing. I tried to start the car again and the gas smell was worse than ever. As I looked under the car again I was surprised to see a 4 foot round puddle of gas under the tank. I immediately pushed the car about 10 feet forward to get it out of the puddle, just in case someone tossed a butt out their window and my car would be gone. Well, now to find the problem. What I found was that the gas return hose that leads back into the tank, had simply popped off. This was found under the carpet in the trunk area, and under the gas inspection plate. For some reason the .50 cent plastic clip just came off. Even when it was on it felt loose. So to be sure, I folded a cloth to about 1" thick and placed it on the top of the fitting. When the inspection plate was screwed down it held the cloth in place and that won't be a worry again. If you haven't had this problem, maybe it will occur sometime and you'll remember this as the first place to look...Happy Trails......Billy the Moot |
