RichOLast Aug, my speedo went out and I gathered all the necessary stuff to replace the sensors on the trans. Then winter came (yes, we have winter in Nash) and I didn't drive it until today. Voila, the speedo works (knock on wood) -but the battery was dead which I soon will replace. I will drive it until it really goes out !!!
I know it's just a matter of time but I've got all the replacement parts incl the correct size wrench. Anyway point is sometimes weather is a culprit.

Anyone have the pick for the best replace battery ?? I'm not a heavy user but the best is the best. And, as you will see, you will need a long sport funnel to refill the oil -- not just to measure it which is a snap. You'll see what I mean

BTW, my hood struts went out at the same time and I
ve got the LST replacements but now the hood seems to not need them (yet) -- but I have them if they do.

Any help on the battery snap-out appreciated. Reason I ask is that battery recs change every year and I'm looking for the best current recs

Thanks for all your help over the past few years.

ed monahanWhen you take out the battery, there is a wedge shaped piece holding the battery in place, in front of the battery down at the tray. Don't take the bolt all the way out. Loosen it up plenty but leave it attached. If you do take it out too far, put the bolt back in a turn or two BEFORE lowering the battery into place.
I used a thin piece of wire to hook onto that wedge and you can thread it through the grill so that you can get the battery in place and then use a long extension ratchet to tighten up that bolt.
There is no room to put your arm or hand down there to get it lined up.
I just put a new battery in the 97 a couple of nights ago.
I bought it at Sam's club for around $90. It is a Duracell with a 3 year replacement and a size 34. They had the Optima for about twice that price.
Greg and VetaMy last battery came from Sam's club also. I am finding that by using one of the $6 battery tenders from Harbor Freight on all my cars, boat, riding tractor, etc the battery life has greatly improved.
TooHipCatI purchased mine from NAPA.
Good quality and the battery is sealed to prevent leakage.
PLUS...if you're a AAA member...you get 10% off when you show your card.

NAPA Battery

Randy CobbI put an Optima in mine, but I agree with above post.....a battery tender is a very wise investment.
