samtatumOne of my issues with my Prowler relates to the turn signals. I think that because the steering is much tighter than on other Chrysler cars, and they uses standard parts for the turn signal, it almost never snaps back after a turn and must be turned off manually. However, with the top down, the blinker indicator is almost impossible to see in daytime and the click cannot be heard easily over the wind noise. My inclination is to add a LED with proper diodes to the turn indication to simply remind me that the turn signal has not reset. I am not sure where to tap in. Has anyone else solved this problem by this or another technique, or have a suggestion as to where best to get a signal. SamT.
CJI've only had that happen a few times.....and it was on more of a curve (entrance ramp) than an actual right or left turn.
Bcoffman Gray GhostSounds like a clock spring going or gone. Might want to get it checked out.
halicatmy signals get left on sometimes if i have the music blasting on a sweeping turn that doesn't engage the auto turn off.

a little red light on the mirror or steering wheel would be nice

samtatumOn the comment about the clock spring, that went bad several months ago and was replaced. By bad, the horn, turn signals, and cruise control quit working altogether. The reset of the turn signal is I think mechanical, so I don't think the clock spring is involved. Anyway, it is the same before and after the new clock spring. I agree with the comment that it will reset from a hard turn. However, for my general driving, I would guess that the signal only resets about 20% of the time. My guess is that for my other Chrysler vehicles, it resets 95% of the time. However, my major concern is that I cannot see the blinker on the dashboard in bright sun, nor hear it with wind noise. With the top up or at night, I can see what is happening and manually resetting is a non-problem.

samtatumThe problem a clock spring solves is how to get electrical signals off the steering wheel to the other parts of the car that need them. I guess there would be three choices, slip rings, wireless, or clockspring. Essentially the clock spring looks like the hair spring in a watch - a helically wound wire that has some number of conductors for the various signals. When the steering wheel turns it winds the helical tighter or unwinds. Since the wheel doesn't turn many turns, the helical doesn't mind getting a bit tighter or looser. Except after about 5000 miles, mine minded. Cost about $275 to replace. I thought it was a strange failure since I think this is technology used in most of Chrysler's products, and 5000 miles seemed a pretty short life.
catfishif youre making a direct rt.or lt.turn it will cancel.if its a sweeping turn,dont know any other way to describe it,where the wheel is not turned far enough it wont cancel.thers nothing wrong w/the clockspring,the clockspring has nothing to do w/the turn signal switch,which does the cancelling.the clockspring has a lot to do w,airbags and other electronics in the wheel..the car having sensitive steering has nothing to do with it.if you turn the wheel all the way lt.or rt.and it doesnt cancel,it needs a new t/s switch.

Dale BeamanThe clock spring is a Chrysler weakness. I was at the dealer today and they have a recall out for it on the minivans. I am sure it is the or going to be a problem on all Chrysler products.

Georgia ProwlerMy Prowler has an audible alarm if the turn signal is left on for more than about 2 minutes...and it increases in volume until it REALLY GETS YOUR ATTENTION! Is mine the ONLY one with this???

if they have been in your steering column they might have screwed it up.

I had the clock spring replaced and they broke the tilt, so they changed the column. Now the turn signal cancellers are at 4 and 8 instead of 10 & 2 like all the other Prowlers I checked. So it could be the dealer screwed it up like mine.

I believe they all have the audibal feature but with top down and radio on it is still hard to hear

If you ever cruise with me you will see my turn signal on a lot if I forget to manually cancel it

ed monahanThere is a beeper if you leave the turn signal on too long.
I would suggest moving to Fla or selling the car to someone in Fla and that will no longer be a problem.

that is what you think. You can drive my car and see that it is not in the right place.

EVERY TIME I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR WARRANTY WORK IT HAD SOMETHING ELSE WRONG AFTER I PICKED IT UP

My clock spring THEN steering wheel was changed then the whole column. Maybe it is the fact they used a newer steering wheel, BUT SOMETHING CHANGED IT!

For anyone out there with some parts........I SURE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A `99 STEERING WHEEL........or maybe even the whole column

Georgia ProwlerI asked my Prowler tech about the T/S alarm and he said "Some have it...some don't." He didn't know why. But I tried it again yesterday and it does alarm and increases in volume the longer you leave the t/s on.

halicatmine has the alarm but van halen, george thorogood, motley cru, stray cats, john cougar and bob seager are louder...

the only time i hear it is when i have dianna krall on...

Marty Usherwe have noticed at various POA events that in a group of a dozen or more Prowlers on a cruise you will almost always see someone crsuising with a turn signal on at some point. Our right signal seems to stay on more than the left. I just try to glance at the arows everyonce in a while but still get caught with one flashing every so often.
Ron RobbI guess my 2000 does not have the audible alert, I caught myself with the right blinker on about 8 miles down the road just earlier today! I know to check it, especially since it was just a sweeping right hander onto the highway - just didn't. Oh well.. Hey, at least it was a beautiful day for a drive!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

bbcarI dont know if this will help, but if your signal arm will not return at all the arm assembly may be bad. If it is like a intrepid, I had to replace mine on my Intrepid and it is a easy job. You have to remove the plastic cover around the steering column, mine was six screws (torx) on the bottom of the column. then there are 2 screws (phillips) that hold the switch on the column inside. after you take those out disconnect the wires and the switch is in your hands. A new switch is about 80.00 I would start your Prowler and without moving turn your signals on and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right and verify that they are or are not working before you replace anything. My Intrepid the signal handle was very sloppy and they would not return ever, my Prowler does not like to return on slight turns but will return on a normal right or left turn. I think they are all like that. If some one has a service manual they can verify the R&R of the signal switch. Hope this helps.

My impression is that your alarm came from the factory w/o any action on your part. However, is there any other light you can shed on how it came about, or if the feature is documented anywhere, etc. Thanks, SamT.
