wbrown	Was looking into getting an extended warranty but only drive the car about 1000 miles a year and the price of the policy is $1700 for a 5 year coverage. What are your thoughts on this.The car is a 2000 and has 5400 miles on it.
DFOTOPRO	because you do not drive it much is the reason I would purchase it.. if you drove it more it would be better..IMHO
prowlrman	I am sure you will get all types of responses pro and con. My personal experience was that I purchased a 5 year warranty in 2002 for my 2001 Black Tie. It cost me about $1,600 at the time as I recall. I did get a number of things covered under warranty during that time, but overall I never recovered the investment. I would say I recovered about $1,000 in parts and labor back. I currently have 16,800 miles on my car, so that averages about 2,100 miles per year. Would I do it again....NO. Considering I had no MAJOR failures...it was not worth it overall. But others have had major problems...so they will tell you they did benefit. So the final call is yours, but thought I'd share my story with you. Good luck making a decision. I'd say put the money in the bank...draw a small amount of interest and use it for any repairs. If you have some left after 5 years you made out...if not..you still had the money to use til it ran out. JMO
JeraneW	I looked into renewing my Chrysler plan and it would cost around $2,400.00. I have put on 11,000 miles since 2002 and did get some return on an item or two after factory warranty ran out. Did not recoup my costs of $1,100. It is a gamble and I decided that was too much especially when I can get complete coverage on my motor coach for a lot less and there are many more things to go wrong. Some of the problems like hood and trunk struts, window regulators and other items are better to buy from some of our great members when they wear out. These items would be better than replacing with warranty products. Time will tell!
phil2237	I have had my Prowler 10 years now, Has 13800 mile, just had warrenty put $ 11,000.00 worth of new parts put on. Well worth it !

ALLEY CAT	JMO,,,,I look at buying an extended warranty as buying car insurance. Most don't have claims against their car insurance company,,and you may not have any claims against the extended warranty coverage,,,,but if a engine or transmission lets go, you have something to fall back on. Those who state their claims on their extended warranty didn't equal the amount spent for it,,,,need ask if their collision and comprehensive claims against their auto insurance company equal the premiums paid for that insurance? Not many,,I'd guess, so the example may not relate. Piece of mind over a big $$$ loss might be important to some people who wish to buy an extended warranty.
ed monahan	And like insurance, it is only as good as the company that wrote the policy. Aftermarket warranties might be quite a bit riskier. They are all GREAT until you try to collect.
alrtg	Just food for thought here..... I would like to suggest that if you have a mechanic or shop that you completely trust (like I do)that you inquire with them about their experience with these insurance plans, how well or quickly they pay, how easy or difficult they may be to deal with, and which if any plans/companies do they accept. If your mechanic/shop has someone they highly recommend, you may want to give it some consideration. I hope this is line of thinking helps someone with their decision and hope all goes well.

Man phil2237.....What you mention above, don't know if this sounds good or bad. $11k worth of parts and labor required on a car with only 13,800 miles. That's equivalent to 2 new engines and 1 new tranny. This is one thing that perplexes me .......KAT owners who advertise the problems they experience with their Prowler's on this site. It's great in one respect making others aware of problems or potential problems (to look for or beware of)BUT on the other hand, when you're ready to sell your prized possession..........well-informed folks will do their homework when ready to purhase a KAT..............and then finding out what some owners experienced with their KAT on a regular basis or every little/big thing.......it's like opening Pandora's Box.....potential buyers won't even consider purchasing a KAT that's constantly advertised with problems. Sorry....just speaking my thoughts & have no intentions of pissing someone off. At the same time....feel free to tell me your thoughts regarding my opinion....no problem. Thumper	Wow Broakie56 I think I know what you where trying to say but I think it came out wrong. For me being a new Kat owner I was not wondering what I got myself into when I read Phil2237 post, but starting second guessing myself after reading your post... I do believe I did my homework and for me the pro's out weighed the con's. Some times the look over shadows the faults. I think it did for me. Just my thoughts... Now to get this back on topic...Auto insurance is not close to being in the same ball park as warranty insurance. In warranty insurance there is a know maximum exposer which would be value you have invested or replacement value. Auto insurance covers you up to whatever limit you wish to protect yourself with, if a unfortunate accident should occur with a unlimited or unknown cost factor...All that said I choose not to purchase a extended warranty. But I carry a lot of auto insurance. Hopefully more than I will ever need (or I hope I never need). alrtg	Brett, I think you got it wrong, if I remember correctly...... The Nail Head was in a Pontiac and not a Plymouth or Chrysler.
