Home Depot. Get (4) 5/16" stainless steel nuts to put behind the check strap on your door. Then trim door stop tabs about 1/16". Touch up tabs with paint and your done.
Investment, approx $.30 Payback, priceless This message has been edited by MDProwler on 12-27-2005 at 06:44 PM |
MOJO | Thanks for the door hinge modification advise. I will have to take a closer look. This sounds like a fun project. Anything I should know in advance... any gotchas? Thanks again. |

Protect the leading edge of the door if you are using a cutoff wheel on a die grinder. Do not grind too much off or when you push the door to it's limit the door will contact the hinge. In normal operation the door will stop where the check strap tells it to. the door can then travel a little farther until it hits the hinge stop. Feel this before you start and compare to the finished project. When you space out the door check strap and open the door it will hit the door hinge stop at the same point at which the check strap wants it to stop. You can then grind the hinge stop away to allow a little extra swing so the hinge doesn't hit in normal operation. When done, open door, push door open further and be sure that the edge of the door does not contact the hinge. If it does than just trim back the hinge some. It's not as hard as it sounds. Good Luck This message has been edited by MDProwler on 12-30-2005 at 04:28 PM |

MOJO | I would just like to thank everyone for the articles and guidance regarding opening my doors wider. I collected all the info from the site and did the work using a dremmel tool. It took about 3 hours total..(I work slow). Both doors open more than 6 inches wider. I can't tell you how much it improves access. Thanks again ... Great advise. |

I can place you on my contact list for future events. I'm sure Kruizin Kat and Charlie will chime in if they catch this thread. What year and color did you get? Brian |
chasmccart | Hey MOJO, What Dremmel tool did you use? Did you use a grinding tool or a cutoff blade. I have a Dremmel and I also want to open the doors wider. Send me an e-mail with your name, city or town, make , year and color of your Prowler and I will add you to the list of New England Prowler Owners. chasmccart@aol.com Charlie

SuperKat | just don't let the door close or the arm snap back into the door duting this operation. you might want to put a small clamp on the door side to make sure. |
