At my first oil change for my 2000 Prowler I noted the owners manual says 5.5 quarts with a filter change. I confirmed this with the mechanic that did the work yet when I checked the oil level this am(cold) it reads overfull. Up to the letter M in Max. Is this an overfill condition and should I have some drained out? Either the guy dumped the whole 6th quart in or did not get it all out!

I'll tell you exactly what happened, because it happened to me. I had the same conversation with the mechanic...Didn't do any good..he over filled it. What he told me was that he made a mistake because the 300M, with the same engine takes 6 quarts...The Prowler has a smalled crank case and only hold 5 1/2 quartz....I even gave him Mobil One for the change....I went back and he had a suction device ( no jokes please ) and he solved the problem.

Actually, while the books "says" 5.5 quarts, it really only holds 5 and 1/4 quarts, the other 1/4 quart overfills our Kat's! Fred, even if you do not drive a Kat at ALL< the oil should be changed every 6 months if you plan on keeping her in top shape.

Same thing happened to me, I just casually let the service manager know (didn't make a big fuss) and the oil was drained and I was back on my way in about 20 minutes.

To finalize the story, I called the Service Manager up and told him what happened. Even gave him the name of the mech. I told him I just discovered the problem this morning. Engine was cold. His response was that "that's not the way you check the oil" Now all you guys know what the owners manual says. Either check it cold(overnight) or within 5 minutes of shutdown. I did both and got the same reading. When I told him this his next remark was, " must be something wrong with the dipstick". I almost fell on the floor laughing. Finally he agreed that there could have been a "problem" and just bring it in. These type of guys will insult your intelligence everyday if you let them get away with it. I took the car to another dealership that I had not been to and lo and behold they had a Clean garage, very nice waiting room, and a Service Manager who couldn't,t have been nicer. "Bring it right down and we will take care of it", he said. Service writer actually spoke to me(the other guy barely did}, and had me on my way in 20' and No Charge. Guess which dealership gets all my future business. I have a Dodge Durango(new) and a new Viper. Next car will come from them. The good dealer is Speedway Chrysler in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Fred, your story sound familiar. The first dealership I went to treated me like s***. Went to a different dealer and the service writer actually came out to LOOK at the problem I had and the service manager was nice as can be. The waiting room even had a coffee pot with coffee actually in it! I'll never forget the service writer at that first dealer. I was in the middle of getting written up, then he takes a personal call right then and talks for 10 minutes right in front of me!!!! I won't even get into the time when I sat in the wait room with the Cat outside getting rained on and the tech calling 3-4 hours later saying he's not coming in. . .!

I hear you Daryl: Thanks to the internet and these type of web sites we can now exchange information about the dealers and the way they treat their customers. No longer can they hide their poor performance from from unsuspecting buyers. This also works in reverse where the GOOD dealers can be highlited. Keep the info coming on Dealers. Fred C.
