I was talking with a guy today regarding rollbars. He said when he reached into the “speaker area” next to where the seat belts feed into, he though he felt something purposely strong. Like maybe that was a reinforced point? Anyone know anything about that. And does anyone know how clear of a shot there is behind the tub to get to cross member of the frame that runs right in front of the rear wheels. If anyone has explored these areas including those that have done the custom speaker boxes and could share some explanation on what we’ll find back there, it would be appreciate. Eventually to pull this off we’ll have to pull this stuff out anyway, but was hoping someone could shed light to prevent unsuccessful exploratory surgery. TIA ------------------ |

OK I agree, posting to myself is a little strange. But this evening I got a chance to take a closer look while washing the cat. I think maybe the strong portion speaker box running along it’s top is used to secure the trunk lid? Can anyone confirm this? |

Whealy - the speaker box comes off with just a few bolts. I took mine off to recover the speaker box and the area behind the seats, but don't remember looking at what else is there. Sorry |

Whealey, Having taken a couple of these cars apart a time or two, The speaker box is held in by two 13mm bolts at each end and one 10mm nut inside the latch bracket. The decklid is not supported by the speaker box. The decklid latch is mounted on its own brace/bracket with the two guides on each corner of the lid. There are also two rubber stoppers to prevent vibration. IMO, the roll bar is going to require some pretty tricky bending to get down to the frame. With the angle of the rear of the tub and how the decklid closes so close to the seat, your in for a JOB! You may even have to cut out around it on the decklid itself. Not to mention how the top is going to close or raise.......Keep us posted! It sure will be neat to see it done!!!! Koz |

Dan, Thanks. I think i had seen these before, but I certianly didn't think to look back at them. Also, thanks to MK and JK for taking the time to post all these. So does any one know what the "arms" are that go straight up off the rear part of the frame? Are those the sealt belt connection points? Also, does anyone know if that's the gas tank directly above the transmissin in this? |
