I never pushed the kat past 200 miles or 180 pulling the trailer loaded for a trip. |

On our drive cross country to Vegas, we regularly went from full to 1/8 of a tank. Which is when the dash gas light comes on, 231 miles. Computer range usually between 45-50 miles to go. The most we drove was 252 miles on one tank. Gas guage and computer on our 01 is very accurate. This message has been edited by garysss on 12-07-2012 at 08:01 PM |

On one road trip we got 239 miles - readout said 4 miles left - gas statio at previous exit on Interstate was closed. I was sweatin' that one! Never tried to beat that number on one tank! |

2000 Prowler,,,,288 once, and 294 another,,,,and the tank was bone dry (not done by choice). All highway driving, 25+ mpg. Took 12+ gallons to fill-up both times. I wouldn't recommend it to others,,,I was a wreck making it to the next town for gas on the fumes..... Normally, I go 230 to 250 miles before looking for fuel, in the 2000 cat. The 2001, is a different story.....180 to 200 miles, with the low fuel light ON |

Going to the Smokies event in 2009 I went 200 miles on 8.5 gallons of gas. That's with gears and pulling a loaded trailer. I don't think I have ever pushed it much past 200 miles. I usually start looking for gas when I am down to 1/4 on the gauge. I just don't trust the fuel gauge on our 99. http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/018867.html This message has been edited by BeWare on 12-08-2012 at 12:31 AM |

On my first long trip with my Kat I decided to see just how far I could go before the "Low Fuel" light came on as I had never seen it come on while driving the car. I was headed from Maryland to South Carolina, cruising around 65/70 MPH with the A/C on and was watching the fuel gauge as well as monitoring the information on the inside rear view mirror. At about 245-250 miles I was getting a bit nervous and decided to pull off at the next exit to fill up anyway. As it turned out there wasn't another exit with a gas station for about ten miles which really got me concerned. At 253 miles the car sputtered and quit. Being a newer owner it scared the you know what out of me but I figured I was out of gas. The low fuel light did not come on until about five minutes later while I was sitting on the side of Interstate 95 just across the North Carolina line. I was able to use my GPS to find and then call someone with a Flatbed and a gas can that could come out and assist me. After that I did not trust the gauge for a while but have since learned how accurate it is. The low fuel light has started working since then. I will attribute it to sitting for long periods of time in one position but driving the car seems to have cured it. These days I typically try to keep the miles driven between fill up's to around 150-175 miles. As I understand it, the fuel pump in the tank relies on the fuel to keep it cool. Running the tank down to almost empty can allow the pump to get to warm and could potentially shorten it's life. Since I don't want to take that chance I am willing to fill up a few miles sooner than later. Keep in mind that my car has Gears installed in it so the mileage may be less than others out there. Overall I average around 19 MPG combined. This message has been edited by alrtg on 12-08-2012 at 08:26 AM |

Driving to the UP event a couple of years ago the low fuel light came on.Seems there had been plenty of gas stations at exits, but suddenly there were none until we got near the Mackinac Bridge. Was a bit unsettling doing that at night . |

Wish I had written down the mileage but I did manage to drive about a mile too far...a couple thousand miles from home. A little voice kept telling me to stop for gas but I was thinking just one more exit.."stop for gas"..."1 more exit"...As the car came rolling to an agonizing halt without even a sputter..bone dry! That little voice came back to haunt..."stop for gas"...except now she was really pissed and that little voice was an all out yell!!!! That was years ago but every time I get in the Prowler I hear the echo..but only if Karen is in the car too! |

You guys sure get better mileage than I get. I have run out several times, but it was mostly in the 99s with the very questionable gauge and always close to home. The Candy drops like a rock until it says I have 27 miles left and I can drive about 50 miles on that until it drops to 6 miles left. I get gas at that point, for sure. On the road I try to fill up when it gets to about 1/4 tank. |

Gatlin,,,,,Was that the time you ran out of gas and made poor Karen push the Prowler 180 yards UP the exit ramp incline to that first station? She sure was pizzed about that incident

Larry, I convinced her that the "uphill" was a optical illusion and that no power steering on a Prowler was a more difficult than it looked.

You guys are lucky. I have two Prowlers and I can get about 170 max (running it dry) on the 1997 and only about 150 (again, running it dry) on the 2001. Problem is I can't fill up the tank more than about 8+ gallons in either car. I knew the 97 had a problem but thought I could get it fixed as Chrysler did come up with a fix for the 97/99 models with that problem. However I've bought parts that are supposed to be the "fix" from two sources and ended up returning them. Dealer can't get the parts either so I kind of gave up on the 97. I assumed the problem would have been corrected by 2001 but to my dismay the 2001 is worse. Cannot figure out what the problem is. I suspect that Chrysler never really did get the problem corrected and some of the available Prowlers are being sold for that very reason. As much as I like my two Prowlers, the gas volume is something that really frustrates me. |
