Did someone slip one by again? Use to have signatures automatically get posted. In fact months ago there was a lot of talk about this, poll was taken. Now my banner wont come up unless I do it manually. Did I miss something? Say it ain't so,,,,,,,, ------------------ |

John - I think I saw a post form MikeK after some post that they would try this way of checking the banner if you want it to show and see what knid of reaction it gets. Personally I like seeing the banmners but understand that for those on dial up service it takes a while for pages to load. I've been trying to put my banner on the first reply in a post and leaving it off on further responses, but am not in the habit yet. regards Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Thanks Marty for clearing this up. Guess I missed it. I have many thoughts on this, and other issues. Personally, I feel the fun is leaving. And other people have issues, power issues, that can't stand not to get their way. But I have other, bigger fish to fry than worry about a few people on a web site. So I guess I will try to remember to click on that option. It's sad, really, but no biggie. If the reason is true with the dial up people, can not a option be added when one comes into the discussion area as to how they want to view? I suspect some child's feelings got hurt awhile back, and this is what it is all about. Anyway I already went to far I'm sure about this. I'm out,,lol,, ------------------ |

Hey JD - How about posting about the Silver Bullet's power issue. That should be fun, don't you think. Rumor has it you have been too busy making it faster to spend time posting! What have been doing to it? I read where you joined Gary and Wayne (almost) as part of the no fender gang. Marty |

Quite some time ago, this issue was discussed because of loading time for dial-up users. Trust me.........I can verify that part of it. The computer at our cottage up north is on a dial-up and it takes FOREVER!! However, what else have I got to do up there but sit and wait....lol! After the last discussion (in which my banner was complained about because of the morphing sequence), I quit using it all the time. Now I will only use it when I am posting or replying to a thread that is started by a new member, just so they know who I am. If I do use it in a post, I've only been using it once on the same thread. It doesn't really matter to me which way everyone wants it... I'll go with the flow. The way it was before, I always had to remember to click the option of not using. This way I only have to remember to click it on if I want to use it. If I knew how to make banners, I'd change it......I need a new one anyway......... ...........doin' the best I can for everyone! This message has been edited by CJ on 06-28-2002 at 03:41 PM |

quote: That's like my computer at home. I don't even bother coming here at home, because it takes too long to load a single page. It's not that I don't like the banners, I think they have become too large in both file size and on the screen. The file sizes for jd2ksilver's banner is 152K and CJ's is 60.5K. On a dial up account, these files are rediculous. ------------------ |

Rich W. Your are mistaken in banner sizes. How did you calculate CJ's banner size to be 60.5K .... CJ banner is - 35.6 KB JD's banner size has changed in size. That puzzles me because when I made it, it was below 40 Kbytes. I would revisit his gif file but since they are now hosted by the POA server, my hands are tied. I always work towards keeping banner sizes below 40K bytes. Anything larger is redicoulous. I'm the originator of most of these banners. Later... ------------------ |

The banner sizes have changed in size for some reason. Can't explain this. JD's banner when I made it was 30.4 KBytes. Now its over 100 KBytes. Mike Krehel, Were the banners retouched with some pixel editing program. This would add more binary bits to the file sizes?? Are the perl scripts running to sponsor these banners converting the binary info some how before loading it to the users cache?? This would explain the slow download time for all you dial up users. By the way.. my banner size is 29.5 Kbytes. Later... ------------------ |

Dan, I like the banners and I think they add a lot personality to our site. I also think that you've done a great job making them and they are appreciated by all! There have been no changes made to the banners and the file sizes and load times are the same as they have always been. The only one that appeared to have changed is John Davies and I found that his signature line was pointing to a banner in his scrapbook. He somehow uploaded it to the scrapbook at 160k. I've since uploaded your original banner to the scrapbook directory. I think I speak for everyone when I say thank you for all your hard work, enthusiasm and creative talents. I would also express that I'm very saddened to see your ProwlerExcitement site offline. Perhaps we can work on something to at least resurrect your Tech Journals on our server. I think your experiences and pictures were an invaluable tool and provided a lot of insight for us all. |

In my humble and not so worthy opinion, next to Mike K. nobody has put as much time, artistry and effort into this than Dan Pena. With his banners, links and artistic efforts he has made this site one of the best on the web. THANK YOU DAN!!!!!! ------------------ This message has been edited by Marc-Colo-99 on 07-01-2002 at 09:33 PM |

Maybe I am out of line with this so I will give my appologizes to those who are offended now but I have noticed that Dann P. has a websight for banners and charges for banners. Maybe I am one of the lucky ones or I missed something I don't know but I was never charged for my banner. Don't know if I am the only one but thanking Dann is one thing I feel as though I owe him more than a thank you! $$$$$$$ Sending him what I see on his webpage is better. That is a real thank you. Anyone else feel this way feel free to jump on this band wagon! ------------------ |

Like always there is no way to do things that pleases everybody. Technology is really cool, but there is always a tradeoff for folks who don't have it yet. Mike, Dan, JD, CJ and all the others who contribute their souls to the Prowler family are doing their best, but they are human and are not perfect. Lets just keep trying, forgive when something gets screwed up and continue having a good time together. ------------------ This message has been edited by catterumpus on 07-01-2002 at 10:20 PM |
