Hello all,

Thanks to my brother in law, Randy, I am a new owner of a all stock, factory 97 Plymouth Prowler. I have heard that there is such a thing as "limited use" car insurance. I am in Florida and looking for this. The quotes I am receiving are as high as my regular car insurance. Who is everyone using for their Prowlers? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Vince

I am with Erie Insurance here in Pennsylvania and they have what is called "lay-up". With our winters I don't drive the Prowler and I get a reduced rate. My other cars are with Great American which is a classic car carrier. With that policy I am limited to 2500 miles per year per car. I have four cars on that policy and I pay $150.00 per year for all four. I am not sure if any of the classic car carriers will take the Prowler, I never asked because I don't want the mileage limitation.

That is correct. I have a reduced mileage policy with State Farm which states that I drive the car for pleasure less than such and such miles a year (I believe it is 5,000 miles). I have this on both my Prowler and Viper.

I have Allstate and they insure my Kat for the same as my '04 Honda Accord for no limits in mileage or use. (~$500/year)

If you have Grundy, I know they limit the car's use to car shows and actions related to maintenance. This is how they explained it to me. Trips to the Dairy Queen are out. They do not allow you to park it at a mall or restaurant and stay covered. If you use them, be careful what you say if you have a claim.

Like Alley Cat said - read everything! and ask a lot questions!

We are paying Allstate about $65/month or about $400 for the 6 months; is the way it figures out for each of the Prowlers. The policy is the same with the Prowlers as it is with all the other cars that are insured. No limits.

I think the issue here is the money you would get back should the car be totaled! I have state farm. The cost is realitively low (About $400 per driving season), but the Prolwer is not ensured anywhere close to its replacement value of the car. If mine were totaled (I have a 2000 with 14k miles on it and drive roughly 3k miles per year). Right now State farm would treat it like a 6 year old car (even with the miles) and if totaled, I would only get (at best)around $15,000 (per my agent who has our house and 4 other cars). State Farm will NOT insure a Prowler as a speciality or custome car and will not insure it "for a specified value" (say the $30 to $35k it would cost to replace it).
State farm does allow me to insure it for just fire and theft during the winter which is good, but the $ limit is a bummer! I have looked at other companies (Like Haggerty - but to insure it for a $45k value it would cost $1400 a year and I cant take it off during the winter (5 month here in the midwest area)...... Sooooooooo.... I'm still looking.

I also have State Farm and the price is reasonable. I was told that the payoff for a total would be much more than Leo stated. They will pay book value according to KBB or something similar.

Put my insurance w/ Infinity Insurance Co., which was Parish-Heacock, which is Great American Insurance "Classic Collectors" (800)274-1804

I haven't had a claim with them, but all dealings have been very good. Agreed value, adjustable mileage, seems fair.

Cost is $700 +/- per year. Several hundred dollars less than quoted by Nationwide that has my regular cars.

My two cents worth...

This has come up quite a few times. The BIGGEST factor is the area in which you live. If there are a lot of auto thefts and a lot of injury claims, it will be much higher. Your driving record also is factored in, with your age, but the AREA is a huge factor.

While what Ed said about AREA is true,,,,,accident free, multi-car, multi-line discounts can be huge. Phoenix is a high car theft city,,,,,plus many, many accidents with no-insurance drivers on the road. I'm with State Farm, have my house, life, boat, and all vehicles with them and pay $240 for six months on the 2000 cat, and $300 for six months on the 2001 cat. 7,500 mileage per year,,,,,but they never check it.

My agent tells me I can save money with other companies,,,,but they will increase or double my premium after one chargeable claim.

A/C, I have State Farm also. I think body shops hate State Farm since they fight them for every nickel. I have never had a problem in the past 30 years or so, but who knows.

Having been on the other side of State Farm and trying to get paid for damage is impossible. They do not want to pay for anything. When one of our company trucks gets hit by a State Farm insured, I turn it in on our insurance, get the truck fixed, and let the insurance companies fight it out.

I have Grundy, unlimited mileage, zero deductible....BUT not for errands. Just cruise-ins, car shows. Must be stored in a locked garage. From May to October there's hundreds of shows and cruise-ins I go to.

I have an agreed value coverage of $50,000 and $8,000 for the matching trailer.

I pay $845.00 a year. Each year I plan on increasing the value of the Prowler and trailer.

We also have Grundy's on our Prowler and 2 other cars.
Prowler is insured for $35K

The rest of our vehicles are insured with State Farm. I have to say that here in Texas, State Farm is a great company. We own a paint and body shop and we wish everyone had State Farm or Farmers. We no longer take jobs from companies like Progressive....they are the worst at paying.

I use Great AMerican Insurance as well. I have a limited mileage usage of 3,000 miles per year with a stated amount of $48,000.00 coverage for $945.00 / year.

I have been with them since I purchased the car in July of 2003. Nice company to deal with but, I haven't had any claims either.

I have State Farm, and I realize I pay higher than I probably should for a car that I only drive 3K per year, but was OK with that. But now that I've been doing mods, such as the doors, engine, grill, etc. .... I worry more about the value I'd get back if some idiot without insurance hits me, and thinking about moving insurance companies. Doing this extra mods on my car shouldn't scare me into driving it less. I'd like to find one that does AGREED value. I'm really only worried about a totalled vehicle, not a 2-3K fender bender (oops - no fenders - LOL) I know one of the specialty companies doesn't even insure Florida cars

Tell State Farm you only want to carry comprehensive while it's in the garage. Whenever you take it out for a drive, call & notify them to put collision back in force. That's what we do. It will definitely save you some $$$
