Hi all, I've been looking for a prowler for quite a while in Florida and found this one for sale just recently http://www.moorechevy.com/VehicleDetails/used-1999-Plymouth-Prowler-2dr_Roadster-Jacksonville-FL/2321085863. The mileage and price are good and the carfax is clean. From the pictures it looks like it's missing some rim center caps and the headlights look foggy. I know the cosmetic issues can be fixed, but I just wanted the opinion from the prowler experts here. Is there anything else I should look out for/ be concerned about when I go see it in person? The engine light that is on would be a concern. It looks to me like the last owner did not take good car of it. The up side is the dealer has not detailed it and it looks like most of the cosmetic issues can be resolved. The dealer knows the price of these cars and 25 is pretty low for a low mile car. I think they know more than they are telling you about the mechanics. Drive it and look it over well. Might be a diamond in the rough. |

Buy a Prowler from a member of this board and have the piece of mind of knowing more about the history of the car. In short, buy mine. It is a car that belonged to a famous person since the beginning! At 127 years old, I am the oldest Prowler owner. At less than 3,400 miles, it is close to perfect. You would have bragging rights of knowing and owning the machine that Old Man nurtured for so many years. The OLD Man My Biased Response to your Post! |

why wouldn't the dealer detail it before taking pictures ,looks like they stepped in mud and went right in for a drive  |

Under certain conditions the fogging headlights is not an uncommon occurrence. The wheel center caps are easy to break. The carpet looks really filthy so that is a red flag as to how well the car was cared for. I would look at the front suspension closely to see if it is clean. That is also a good indication of how it was cared for. |

George Moore Chevrolet is just down the street from me. The Prowler is in front of the dealership, close to the 6 lane divided highway. Driving by it looks clean (I didn't stop: it IS a CHEVROLET dealership, you know.) |

I know a guy with a red and it is always dirty. He told me not to park next to him at one of the local car cruises. |

You can always tell that it is an orginal Prowler..at least two center cars will be missing and the tires are as hard as rocks. Looks like a owner just drove it, then decided when the light came on,to trade it. Looks a little rough for 16k miles. Beware of buying cars that are near the salt water. I just bought a red '99 with 24k miles last month on-line. Paid $27k for it, and $1,350 to ship here from Utah. After receiving it, I found MANY issues that were not divulged in the pics. I live 4 hrs from that dealer, and wish I could buy it instead. The price is good, if it just needs some tlc. You need to check it personnally though, or (pay?) the other member on this board that lives there to check it out for you. Just my 2 cents..... Andy |

I called "bruce" at that dealer. States that vehicle came from "The Keys" and has undercarriage rust issues. A prowler owner came from Gainesville (you??) and spent an hour looking it over and supposed to get back with him next week. I agree with the other members.... Better to purchase one from a individual to truly know what you are getting. (Andy) |

I bought my 99 red from a private party, but had a neutral Mopar dealer do a thorough inspection of the first. They found several issues that the seller didn't "notice" but I've had no surprises with the car. I knew what I was getting into, and was able to get the car for less as a result. I would recommend this approach for any Prowler buyer. DON't EVER TRUST THE SELLER IMPLICITLY WITH THESE CARS! |

Thanks for all your responses! 1of1576, yes that was me who ended up going to the dealership to see the prowler. As I drove up from far away the prowler looked in good condition, but up close was another story. It was very, very rusted out, from the front suspension to oxidation on the outside of the engine block. The headlights were faded, the chrome rims were peeling a lot, like huge flakes of chrome just falling off. The inside was really in good condition, besides the fabric top which was all worn out. The salesman said the car just sat outside because the previous owner was older and couldn't get into it very well. I probably looked for less than 30 minutes, and told them I wasn't interested, I didn't bother drive it. I was willing to put some work into it for a good price, but this was more then I was willing to get into. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep looking. |
