![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I wanted to start this as a new thread to make sure it was seen... Today I tried to swamp out my rear rotors with the new cast iron rotors from NAPA (Part # NB 4885993) and NO GO!!!! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Can you measure yours as I have 2 of them on my car now, They work fine. As far as I know, all the Prowlers have the same rotor. Is it the outside diameter or where the parking brake is ? This message has been edited by phil2237 on 07-05-2017 at 03:11 PM |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well that kind of stinks but thanks for letting us know your experience and the part number that you had. FYI, Sometimes when a particular number is discontinued or superseded by another, or even if a vendor switches product line items can get relabeled or even re-boxed and mistakes are easily made when this happens. Did you happen to compare the other rotor to be sure it was identical? Were the rotors you bought the "Vented" style? Both the vented and non vented rotors are listed for the other vehicle applications in different circumstances but only the vented version should be compatible with our cars. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The rotors I have are NOT Napa's but that number was crossed to the brand I have. I will pull a rotor off tomorrow and get the measurements as its already 90 degrees and this old man doesn't like to sweat. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now what is very strange is the rotors I have here that I bought for Gary Empfield are smaller than the ones I received the first time that I installed. I am taking the stock one back to our vender for measurements tomorrow

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yes they are vented and look identical accept way smaller... The Nappa Rotor is clearly smaller than OEM on the Kat... The Nappa rotor is approx 11.25 inches in diameter and or 285.75mm... The rotor on the Kat is a bit over 12.25 inches in Dia. and or 312mm ( + or -3mm ) as my meter only goes to 300mm so I piece mealed the measurement... If you want pics I can post but these NAPA's are not even |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The pair I have are almost identical, but 1/16 smaller in diameter which is OK. The pad rides well within the surface. I am pulling one off tomorrow. This past weekend, I put about 150 miles on them, stop great. The E Brake inside diameter is 7 11/16 which is what the original rotor is. I did not get the Napa brand and am wondering if there is a difference |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have the Napa brand and in Canada it cost 170 in total. I will try them this week to see what's up. Hope they will do a return if they don't work.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Phil... Without you going through a ton of trouble... Can you provide the part number for the Volvo rotor? |
phil2237![]() ![]() POA Site Supporter Prowler Junkie From:PLACENTIA CALIFORNIA |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As soon as I can make sure they are safe. I have taken them off and are now having them drilled & slotted & balanced. Hard to believe a Volvo rotor fits the Prowler. I don't want members buying them if they will not be safe. I had to have the E Brake surface turned a little as to fit properly with the shoes This message has been edited by phil2237 on 07-09-2017 at 08:53 PM |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Why am I confused...why was the Napa part number provided as the replacement. Is the Volvo rotor part number from Napa or are you using a different rotor all together. I have to return these rotors soon I hope for a refund. I will attempt to install a rotor tomorrow. The Napa one that I bought. robin |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Attempted to install the Napa part# rotors no go.... Was able to return them no hassle. 4885993 robin |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This statement is now true again... The prowler has specific rear rotors. they are still available to purchase about 400 a side. not suppose to use ceramic pads. The only person that has duplicated a rotor is Bill the Parts guy. They are your every day steel rotor that can be turned if desired. You can use ceramic pads on these. (where as originals should not be turned) These are cheaper about 240 each? There are no other off the shelf rotors that fit the prowler as of yet.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks Robin for the leg work. With that said, don't mean to throw a wrench and kitchen sink in this mess but do you guys think a ROTOR AND CALIPER from another Chrysler vehicle would fit??? Just a crazy thought reading this thread. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() quote: No other Chrysler comes close to the measurements that the Prowler has. I have been down that road over the last year trying different ones. You can get a rotor from Chrysler that will look the same but the thickness of the new rotor is larger than the Prowler ones. For some reason , the Prowler uses a very thin rear rotor unlike other cars |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I see your concern about the thin steel rotor warping and yes they are thin. My thought on another rotor and caliper was that you could use a standard thickness rotor and a caliper to accept the thicker rotor. Only issue would be if the caliper would mount to the Prowler properly. Possibly another Chrysler setup. Just a thought. You would need to remove the caliper to change the rotor anyway,,, the only issue would be the bleeding procedure.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Raybestos, a leading aftermarket brake supplier, has issued a warning about Chinese-made brake rotors that are dangerously thinner than name-brand aftermarket and original equipment brake rotors. The lightweight rotors are being sold in various auto parts stores to unsuspecting consumers as standard replacement rotors. But the thickness of the discs in these "lightweight" rotors has been reduced by increasing the air gap between the rotor faces. This saves about 4 to 5 lbs. of cast iron per rotor, and reduces the manufacturing cost $3 to $4 per rotor. Unfortunately, this trick also reduces rotor strength (which is important to resist cracking and rotor failure), the rotor's ability to absorb and dissipate heat, and the ability to resurface the rotor safely the next time the pads need to be replaced. For more details, read this warning. For more information about the dangers of thin rotors, visit BadBrakes.net. |
