Hello All

As I am not computer comfortable and don't know how to type well, please see post in PPC in tech area for new radiator update.
It's still under test and construction, but we are very encouraged, so much that I had to share the news.
I promiss to keep all informed and Dan will be posting pics very soon. This is for all to share in who have a need to rid their engine of all the heat developed by the horsepower being added to our great cars.

John, How's this, just wanted to help you out.

Hi Folks,
We have just installed the new radiator in my car for test. As of now we do not have the AC condenser in the car as we have to change the mounting of it, and we did not want to change until we were relatively sure of the outcome.
The car runs in normal temp where it never did before. I ran the car climbing hills under load of the supercharger at speeds above 110 and down to normal speed. The temp guage never got above the 5/8 mark. True, summer may be gone and we will not be able to test in 100 degree heat, but I ran the car very hard in Auto Stick and it NEVER reached the 5/8 mark. This a car that overheated several times climbing to Reno and even flat runnig on the highways. So we are very encouraged, so much that the AC goes in next week, and the radiator will have final paint applied.

Dan will post pics, as it is he, I and a few other members contributing to the project. Please understand, it is not complete yet but when it is. All details will be posted for all to share in. This is for all to use.

I can tell you the new radiator is a 4 row, serpintine radiator with dimpled tubes. That is the water flows like "S" through the radiator so it will go accross the fan 3 times. The stock radiator is a 2 row, horizontal radiator, that is, it flows horizontally one time accross the fan area.

I will let you all know more as we go, I promiss, but for now the others involed wish to remain annonymous untill it is completed. I hope you understand, and can respect thier wishes.

Heres hopeing for cool runs,,, very fast cool runs,,,

Thanks for the update.

Gary,

Gear changes and chrome projects have taken some of the radiator time. John is running cool and he is not getting hot anymore.

John can add some more to this topic.

Hi all

Been running cool 99% of time. Once on a very hard run through hwy 9, and Skyline Blvd... (Very fun mountain roads) the car got right at 3/4 temp. The revs were staying up in the hi 5s and low 6s and the supercharger kicking in all the time. This is with the AC condenser still off of the car. That goes in this coming week, that is the final big test, other than summer heat. I suspect the car may get warm in severe heat and hard climbing while having Dan trying to keep up, but nothing like it did before at all. I'm very pleased..

sorry Dan,, couldn't resist,,

What percentage of coolant are you running?

Any water wetter?

Price? Like it matters.

What temperature was it outside when it reached 3/4?

thanks

Gary

50/50 coolant-distilled water, no water wetter.

Temps were in the mid 70s

Without labor cost, and there is alot of R&D to fit this thing, the radiator itself is under $600 so far. I've no idea what final will be, the important thing for me was to run cool and be fast. So fars its happening

yep,, whenever everything is done and documented. There are a few mods that have to be made inside the cavity, so after that is ironed out, everything will be ready.
I cant give you a timetable as yet. Don't expect it in the next few weeks tho.

ok you guys, I have a question.

Do both of you have the stock front grill or do you have some aftermarketers grills? If you have a different grill than stock, which manufacturer's do you have?

Just wondering if the aftermarketers grills might be an added air flow restrictor causing the temp. to run hotter.

Andrew

I do have TGF front grill but going back to stock as soon as mine gets back from the chrome shop. I also have Real Rods front turn signals beind the grill. I'm aware of the pontential problems and willing to move lights. But Dan's is stock all the way in front and he has same heat problem as I, so the lights will be the last in line to modify.

See ya... John

Mine got finished last Friday. I understand Dan's is going in early next week or so. Then I think the main guy who wants anonymity until documentation is complete is putting one in his stock prowler. I ask him every time I see him about posting, I will as soon as the OK comes down.
BTW test with the AC condenser in seem to be consistent with it out. But cannot get summer heat for the real test. But I'm satisfied.
