Chromer clearly won round one! Chromer sprayed the replacement little bezel feller in the eyes, re-enforcing his protruding tangs with HOT GLUE!

The Bezel Brothers clearly won round two.
Chromer was completely unsuccesful trying removing the light swith shaft to ge a clear swing at the wounded bezel brother.

Mrs. Chromer called off the match after watching her hubby fight the bezel's with every weapon he had.

HELP.. I'v bent tip cleaners..mangled screw drivers with no success. What tool should be used to relase the light switch shaft?

1.open hood
2.disconnect battery & isolate the neg. battery cable
3.remove instrument panel top cover
4.disconnect wiring from switch
5.remove switch knob by depressing the release button on the bottom of the switch and pulling out the knob from the switch
6.remove the knob bezel

looks like 35 years later they use the same system

Thanks for your reply. I did look it up in the service manuel on page 8E-12 (it's not like me)and that was no help .

Jack usually takes care of these small jobs for me . However, he got a dab of that (REALLY) HOT glue on his paw! Now he won't come back into the garage to help out at all.

Thanks for your response. I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove the dash pad (yipes..I think they are about $900).

The temperature here in Denver is now 60F (NICE!!). Should
temperature be a factor to be conidered when pulling the plastice dash pad: Any good tips you can share to minimize my chances of damaging the dash pad when it's pulled.

I could not get my fat short fingers to grab the dash good enough so I made a TOOL out of a stiff blade 1 1/2" puddy knife. By making a bend in the end of it to create a 1/4" hook on it then using a towel to protect the dash I hooked it under the dash by the windshield. Then grabing the dash between the speedo & guage to the right (I don't remember what one it is) wiggle and pull straight out. The clips that hold the cover on are all around the painted section. the area next to the windshield only has tabs to locate to cover.

The guy at CAAP that showed me how it came out only grabbed the dash and pulled it straight out in about 5 seconds. I do not think the cold will make any difference.

You might go ahead and do the squeak protection while it is out even though it might not squeak now, it might after being disturbed

you might try to see if you could go from the bottom and get to the switch to release the knob, but on the covette I had to change the switch on the only way to get to it was remove the dash pad

Thanks for your suggestions. The dash pad is safely off and in the basement. Now that frisky bezel is in for..next weekend..?
