I have a yellow 2000 with 6000 miles and a very annoying problem. I have run out of gas a couple of times but no low fuel light comes on, the gas gauge shows 1/8 of a tank and the digital display shows well over 20 miles to go. The car has spent over a month in the shop, 5 seperate visits to try to cure the problem. They have replaced the fuel sender twice, the fuel gauge, the pc board etc etc....still not working correctly. I get the feeling they have pretty much given up, a low fuel light and gauge not working correctly don't seem to be a big problem, I have been told to just keep it filled all the time. Well that is not acceptable to me, I think that with a car of this price and quality the advertised features should work. I am how ever getting tired the car being pulled apart to throw some parts at it in the hopes of fixing it. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there a Prowler customer service number I can call? I am located in ft Lauderdale and take the car to the dealer in Hollywood. HELP!!!!!

My fuel gauge only goes to 3/4. An earlier post states could be the way you fill it up.

The way you fill it up, how many ways can you fill up a car? Mine shows full when full, just doesn't read right when getting low and the low fuel light won't come on.

Sounds like same problem I have had with my 2000 yellow. Never had anyone look at it and have not run low enough to test it again. Based on observation it seems like it might be inconsistent. If you resolve, let us know.

I'd try another dealer in your area myself. If they cannot fix this, lemon law sounds about right.

I have the same problem right now with my Prowler I just bought. Mine is a 2001 with 230 miles on the odometer. My gauge only goes up to 3/4 tank. I took it to the dealer and they said it is some type of valve for the gas tank that is causing the problem. They had another 2001 in a while back for the same problem and they replaced the BCM, gas gauge, etc. and it didn't fix the problem. I'm not sure exactly what this valve is, but they said it will fix it. Now I'm just waiting for the weather to clear so I can drive it down to the dealer so they can install it. The dealer said that they have to drop the rear axle and everything, but it will fix the problem. As soon as I have more details, I'll let you know.

I am amazed why some Prowlers do this and some don't. I think Ed Monahan has that same problem too?

On a car like this, they aren't "problems" they are supposed to be cute "idiosynchrosies"...

Good luck fixing the gauge problem. My gauge fills to "Full", but I don't let it go below 1/4 tank because of posts like these....

I agree that the fuel gauge should work correctly. We only have a 12 gallon tank to begin with. AS a daily driver I would going to the gas station every other day if I only let it get to 1/4 and refilled. My gauge works OK, I can let it get right on E and still only put in 11.2 or 11.3 gallons. The range setting on the mirror isn't worth squat to me, it shows 0 miles when the light comes on for low fuel.

In any event I would suggest you find a dealer that is willing to make it right for you.

I recently ran out of gas (first time in my life) with the gauge at 1/8 and the fuel light on. BUT - I've driven it at that point since new - The gauge was always fine at the bottom end. Like many others, my 2001 doesn't work past 3/4. Er, well, except for one fillup where it went to full... So, watch the odometer.

I have posted this several times so I will TRY to keep it short.
At first I could drive after it got below "E" for another 50 miles and still have gas. As recently as last summer in Colo. this was still true.
Later in the summer I ran out at 1/8 th tank and then later ran out at about 1/4 tank. It still only took 10 gallons when I filled it up. I have no clue what the problem or cure is.
I have a 99, no mirror mileage gauge. I reset the trip odometer EVERY time now.

Switch dealership and tell them to replace BCM if not already done.

Oops. Yes, I had this problem for a while and didn't want to have to drop the fuel tank to attempt to fix it. So, I left it alone for a long time. I finally persued it again and upon replacing my BCM, the problem was fixed.

My gauge seems to work ok but I don't trust it. It seems to read different all the time. I check my mileage every time I fill UP and reset the trip odometer. When I start getting close to 200mi I fill ups.

Thanks for the link Ed...

I read the previous posts, My question is how much is the BCM? Im not under warranty...

Today I went on a short road trip to Quartz Hill with the Kat, I filled up at 130 miles, and it took 7 gallons. The gauge said just under 3/4. Before coming home I topped off again, not wanting to be stuck on the side of the road again.

If I thought dropping the tank would work, Id do it... My gauge used to work perfectly, then it went crazy.

Thanks

Kala, I am out of warranty and never bothered to fix it YET. Maybe I will get around to it someday. I just fill up after 100 to 150 miles now.

I have the same problem, gauge reads 3/4 tank when it is full. I have been in 3 times now and they have replaced the BCM, that did not help, then they replaced the fuel level tank unit, that did not help so now they have ordered a new gauge which will take 3 weeks to get here, then I get to take it in again. There is a fella in Milford CT. said he had them replace the Valve Pkg. fuel Control # 15093967AA and that took care of the problem. It is under warranty but it is a real pain to have to keep dropping it off to let them look it over again. I have also had a problem with the rag top which has a small cut caused by the trunk handle coming down on it by accident and they have refused to give me a new top so I guess I will have to go to the top and talk to someone who has the authority. I think I may have to go across town to another dealer if they can not fix it.
