My 99 with 17,000 miles seems to not want to shift past 2nd gear either in auto or manual mode.. This problem has been relayed to me by my son who has the car out of town so I'm not there to witness it myself. Coincidentally, he claims the speedometer also quit working at the same time. Ok, gear heads...what do you think? |

Limp mode, need to change the input and output sensors on the transmission, can pick them up at the auto parts store and just need a 1 inch socket. Do a search and you will see detailed pictures, really easy to do! This message has been edited by Mr.Mcgoo on 07-08-2009 at 08:51 PM |

If I had taken the time to research the problem I certainly would have easily found the solution right here on POA. So thanks for helping me out Mr McGoo. The check engine light did come on as well so it shows all the classic symptoms Thanks so much This message has been edited by burglarman on 07-08-2009 at 09:12 PM |

if you dont have a deep socket a wrench works just as good since theres really not many threads on sensor.the lite will go out on its own if that solves the problem. ------------------ |

No speedometer working,,,,,its the Output sensor which has failed. No need to change both out at this point,,,save the input sensor for another time. Good luck............ |

I think it's obvious at this point... :-) Change your input and output sensors. I recommend changing both of them. They're cheap, and the other one will eventually fail so why not replace it now and be good to go for another 10 years... All the best :-) |

"Change your input and output sensors. I recommend changing both of them. They're cheap, " --------------------------------------------------------- Where is the cheapest place ? I paid $29 at NAPA and $24 at dealer. Is that about right ? tom |

I always carry this in the Prowler. This is a copy of a post which I have I previously made. The bag is the toiletries bag sold in the POA Store. It takes up very little space in the trunk. It will hold much more than what I carry in it, I need to add a small flashlight and spare batteries.

quote: Actually,,,,,its a very common problem with many Chrysler automatic transmissions, and not limited to the Prowler 42LE tranny. I would think the real blame should be directed at the vendor who makes the sensors for Chrysler. |

Does the speedo work? If so it is the input sensor is bad. If speedo does NOT work; then the output sensor is bad. |

quote: Hi Tom: Sorry I'm just seeing your question now. I bought my sensors at AutoZone. Always check at Autozone first as a rule of thumb. They are hands down the largest aftermarket parts supplier, nationwide. The also supply every other outlet (Napa, PepBoys, Kragen, etc). They are doing something like $500 Billion a year in aftermarket parts. The next in line is something like $15 Billion in parts. Autozone will have or match the lowest price. |

Do you have the Autozone part number? I just called them and they said they do not carry the sensors.. I also gave them the Napa number and they could not cross reference them.

The Autozone websites shows part no SU1034 for the output and SU1018 for the input. identifies them as transmission speed sensor. I assume these are the sensors we're after. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/parts/partsShelf.jsp?displayName=Sensor+-+Transmission+Speed¤tPage=1&categoryDisplayName=Drivetrain&navValue=11201730&itemId=prod6032 8&parentId=cat30054 This message has been edited by burglarman on 07-23-2009 at 02:11 PM |

Autozone does carry the sensors (both in and out), just bought both input and output sensors and installed them 2 months ago - cost $17.59 each. Nic |

Their website is no good. You gotta pay them a visit at one of their stores. They can search their warehouses nationwide and have the parts shipped ovenight to your local store. Also be sure to have them search for the Intrepid and 300M input/output sensors as well. They are not typically listed under the Prowler. They all use the same Transmission. Cheers |

He must not be Jan, they have always had my Ceramic Pads in stock also. I bet it didn't take him a few seconds to look it up and go to the back to get the stuff when I went in last. I have never had a problem with their parts either. |
