Hi everyone! A couple of questions about the doors on the Prowler: 1) Is there a mod to make them open wider? (I am not interested in Lambo doors) 2) Is there a history of damage - cracks, etc in the doors or door mounting areas due to attempts by buffoons or fatties to force them to open further? I am always careful, but feel as if I always have to brief/caution passengers, and even mechanics that "that is as far as they open." Thanks to everyone in advance for your input.

Yes there is a simple way to make them open wider. It involves grinding back the stop tap slightly and puting a spacer behind the door check strap. You can get about 6" additional opening with this mod. Rick Buehler has a kit with the spacers that make it somewhat easier to do.

The name is actually' Scotts' Prowler Stuff. I've been making a kit to do this for several years now. I have them in stock. They are 25.oo which includes shipping in the US. This kit has specially machined billet spacers to go behind the door catches of each door. You use the existing bolts for each of these since they are really long. You will need a 10mm socket and 1/4"rachette with an extension.(very common tools) The next tool is not so common and that's a casting grinder(electric hand held high speed motor holding a mandrel with a 3" x 1/32" green wheel. I have the mandrels and wheels together for 13.00 but you will need to find or borrow or rent the tool itself. Any good body shop will have one of these. They are expensive to buy(around 250.oo). The kit comes with complete instructions (in color)I have sold a number of these all over the counter and people really are happy with them. If you want on of these just send a check to:
Scott Curtis(make check to me please)

i invented the mod,not scott.remove side panel and cut 3/16 inch off of each hinge stop.look at the hinge and you will see it.then add 6 small washers to the dr check bolts 2 and you will get another 6 to 7 inches of opening.i believe my previous post is listed as-make your door open wider.

TRUCE. I won't argue as to whose invention this was, but Rick installed a set of these on my Black Tie as well as seat risers for my best girl friend (my wife) and these were two of the best mods done to my car.

Rick is a true craftsman/machinist and has come up with several improvements, including the seat risers. He came thru for me on a few occasions. He is a quiet guy and doesn't post much, and brags less. He does the job with precision, however.

Thanks to all for the info!! I am sure I will get blasted for this - but here goes: It bugs me when people take this stuff WAY too seriously. You know, the Prowler is awesome, but in the grand scheme of things, sorry, it is just a car. It is something that is supposed to bring smiles, not conflict. I saw the same things happen when I was into mid year vettes and then again with Harleys. A Prowler is something that I own - it is not- and never will be my identity or my life. I have never met Ed Monahan, but he seems to set the example for how to enjoy the hobby, help others, and maintain perspective. Others seem to be constantly causing conflict or taking offense. As Ross Perot would say "That's just sad." ( He also said "I'am all ears." Ha Ha)

Rick, thanks for that compliment but I do try to cause conflict, especially with Alley Cat and Robert, IF in fact they are not the same person. lol

Thanks to Broakie, also.

Rick Rowland.....I can assure you if you contact Scott Curtis (Obi-wan) by phone....you'll enjoy a conversation that will last as long as you allow it to last. This guy is so nice and helpful and is willing to share any and all Prowler information he has obtained over the years. No BS either. It's hard to get him off the phone just because informing and helping others is what he loves......his passion is next to none! He'll send you one of his catalogs at no charge. I got off the phone with this guy being in awe, trying to absorb everything he shared with me. Directions come with everything he sells. Scott Curtis (Obi-wan) makes himself available to you always. I've had the pleasure to purchase his chrome tach and cannot say enough about the high quality it deems. I have an Obi-wan 'wishlist' now. Everything you purchase in life should be so good.....quality, directions, packaging, tools an so forth! I've seen his guage chromed rings.....awesome. Others on this site consult him too and have expressed happiness with his products. Do yourself a favor and call him. Here is his information again >>

oh,rick, taken seriously, you bet.when somebody, and we all know who that is,trys to take credit as his mod, thats being a thief.i copyrighted and registered this mod in 2000.that means i own it,which my copyright attorney will agree.i also have over 650 contemporary designs registered,i take infringement very very seriously.theres plenty of thieves out there wanting/trying to take credit for something they couldnt create if they had to .easier to steal from somebody else.enough said.

You speak with forked tongue,,,,,,

It was my understanding you had a face to face to Scott some time back, and agreed that BOTH came up with a idea to make the doors wider at very close to the same time. Which from what I see, are slightly different.

Also, one thing you are WAY OFF BASE with is Scott's ability to create. If anything at all he goes overboard on his creations, but I think that is the engineer in him. I have been the guinea pig/benefactor in many of his ideas

This thread, along with so many others, have gone off course I guess. But get your facts straight at least. Don't throw stones just to be throwing.
If you REALLY feel you are in the right, where does your lawyer stand?

Copied from copyright.gov:

What does copyright protect?

Copyright, a form of intellectual property law, protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture. Copyright does not protect facts, ideas, systems, or methods of operation, although it may protect the way these things are expressed.

as an example you can copy right many things,my original artworks were copyrighted, and some were registerd and patented.the only way you can patent a artwork or somthing else is if it moves/moveable.on some of mine the customer could change the design by moving the 3d center piece.scott saw my mod at a prowler meet a long time ago at a hotel parking lot in primm nv where i showed it to him and the regretted it ever since.i also have witnesses if he wants to dispute again.when i drew the design of the modified hinge showing the mod,i copyrighted it and later also applied for a patent with the us patent office.thats why on some things you will see patent applied for, until they actually receive it.
