First of all, a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Mile Hi Prowler group for arranging one of the most fantastic trips ever. You could not ask for better hosts than John and Grant and all the other members that worked behind the scenes to ensure we all had a memorable event. I cannot thank you guys enough. The time, effort, practice runs, selection of destinations, not to mention the cost you all bore was sincerely appreciated by all that attended.

(Note: Before anyone complains, I tried to upload these pics to the event scrapbook, but I can't get them to upload there.)

Sunday, June 21. Day of arrival.

Many people were already there when we arrived. So I think some of the enthusiasm had waned at the check in table. LOL

Or maybe they were underpaid. (Or working for free). That is not a good pic of them and I apologize in advance. I'm sure they had worked their behind off for weeks and months in advance and I hope they're good sports!

Some were already lined up.

and more in the covered garage. Thankfully John made sure the arrangements had covered parking and later in the week we were appreciative as there was hail at the hotel!

The evening began with a barbeque at Grant's house. Great host and a beautiful place. We filled the cul de sac where he lives with prowlers.

Then to his back yard. What a nice place, and very gracious hosts.

There were all kinds of faces, some I knew, many I didn't. I'm horrible with names so for the most part, I won't even try to butcher them. But in this case, it is Greg and Veta from FL, Sandy from CO.

The Texas contingency Chris, Dan, Laurie, Lisa

And here, stuck way in the corner were a couple of Canadians. They don't look like they feel at ease yet. But the nicest father and son, Ron and Aaron (Erin-LOL) from Saskatchewan. (They got introduced to margaritas for the first time in the parking lot).

And I finally got to meet Jerry AKA Meancat, the Mayor, the king, the queen, whatever... He's quite a character. He was holding court!

After a great dinner, then it was back to the cars

for a trip to a drive in movie theater

It was a double feature, Jurassic World, and the latest Fast and Furious. Needless to say, most of us opted for a single feature as it had been a long day.

Monday. Destination: Breckenridge.

As everyone knows, you have to hurry up and wait. So lining up beside the hotel.

and they had some good looking cars.

This is in fact God's Country! It is spectacular scenery.

The drive was beautiful.

For those of us from the flat country, where the highest thing around is an overpass, the mountains in the distance were gorgeous.

There were twists and turns, up and down, form one sight to the next.

There was only one slight hiccup. The plan was to make a stop in South Park. Unfortunately, the group got separated so only some got to stop there. The rest went on to Breckenridge. That group was being led by some dumb out of state driver (me) but we made it and pulled into the bus stop

before parking in our own reserved lot!

Thanks to our fearless leader, Ranger John.

(Never did see Smokey bear)

Then it was off to eat, shop, sight see, do as you please. Breckenridge was very nice. Lots of quaint shops, etc. Even a nice stream running through it.

After that it was back to the hotel, but went via Loveland Pass, 12,000 ft plus elevation. And some of the previous pics posted were from that leg of the trip.

I will post more pics as time permits this week.

I agree Dale. I sent Mike a message so we'll see if he can get to the bottom of it.

And Dan, thanks for posting some great pics. Anyone is welcome to contribute as they see fit.

Some of the pics I posted yesterday for the Breckenridge trip were from Loveland Pass, on the way back to Denver from Breckenridge. It was 12,000 plus foot elevation, beautiful roads.

And thanks to Dan for posting some great pics, including the trip to South Park I was unable to include. Some of my pics may be near duplicates so apologies in advance.

Now, back to the story.
Tuesday, Day 2. Destination: Royal Gorge Bridge, then Bishop's Castle.

As usual, after hurry up and wait, it's time to gas up on the way.

Then it was on the way to the Royal Gorge Bridge.

A fluke photo

And arrived at the Bridge. There were LOTS of prowlers, 45 as I understand. First we had to wait while all arrived.

This is our destination! Built in 1929, 1050 feet above the Arkansas river, elevation 6600 ft.

And it's a LONG way down to the bottom.

That's a train down there at the bottom.

They also have a zip line close by the bridge. Some of our more adventurous members went for it!

Finally, it was time to start our way onto the bridge.

But we had to go across first, then circle around and come back onto the bridge.

Lining up on the bridge.

Then we spotted him, like Superman, swooping in to get the shot.

Unfortunately, the aerial pics are TOP SECRET, only to be released at a yet to be determined date. Unlike superman, it was expensive to fly so it will be a way to offset the costs.

It turns out we had to move all the prowlers over to one side of the bridge to allow golf cart traffic and foot traffic to pass. When we all moved to one side, the bridge leaned moderately to one side. What you see is NOT an optical illusion.

It was a great visit.

After lunch at the bridge, we had to stop at the helicopter place to get a group photo for the owner (prowler owner).

Our trusty photographer

Then it was off to one of the most unique places, Bishop Castle. Google it for a more full description. Definitely worth your time to visit.

Notice the storm clouds brewing!

All hand made by one individual, took him a lifetime. All the stones moved by homemade pulleys, elevator, all the iron work done by him. Obviously a talented, yet eclectic individual with strong political views.

I decided to start doing some climbing. The stairs are VERY narrow, the iron works tends to sway a little as you go higher.

I wasn't the only one to head up. John was on the right spire (as viewed from the front) always getting the shot.

But is was one gorgeous view. I was up on the left spire, which towers over the entire place. It is 160 ft high, 16 stories.

And you remember the storm clouds brewing? Well the wind started to pick up, and the iron works is not up to traditional building codes, so it starts to sway fairly good. And that's when the thunder started, and where there's thunder, lightening will be sure to follow. Not a place you want to be in, a metal cage 16 stories high. Not wanting to be nominated for the Darwin award this year, I made my way down quickly!
We left right away but got caught in a storm not far away. In fact, one of the local owners who left just a couple of minutes before us got caught in a hail storm and caused her to spin out on the winding road. No injury or significant damage thank goodness.

To be continued...
