Not sure if this goes here, but:

I had a Wonderful 2001 Prowler. Gears, MTD Intake, Borla Exhaust. Loved it, and, red light green light, was pretty darn quick. Surprised a bunch of people.

So, to get the car I just purchased, in the quick range again, what should I do ? The Same ? I see headers, Exhaust etc. What mods (And I am sure its all discussed ad nauseum here) are best bets. Anything new out there ? Any advice most appreciated. Looking foreword to making this Black car, mine!

John

I have this exact setup: Gears, MTD Intake, Borla Exhaust. Unfortunately most if not all are difficult to obtain these days.

Yep, it’s a even more fun to drive. Gears are awesome. It runs a half second faster in the 1/4 mile than it did stock. Lots more fun just cruising around town as well. Hope you can find some.

Gears, Intake, Exhaust, Wonder Bar, Top and bottom frame connectors. Goes faster, sounds better, and rides good.

Some of these items are definitely hard to find.

I have: Gears, MTD Intake, Flow Master Exhaust with X-pipe, removed the baffles, kept the original manifolds. Bosch Platinum Plus 4 (4428), Viper Side panels from Gary, & removed the rubber gasket/seal by the windshield to help with the heat in the engine bay.

For the ride: Suspension Bridge with the Prowler logo and 4 bolts.

See this discussion about headers.
http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/024285.html

It is my understanding that 99 Prowlers had cast stainless steel headers. In 2000 they switched manufacturers and the headers changed. Chrysler made the following claime about the cast stainless headers: cleaner, “cast stainless steel exhaust manifolds that make tube-type headers look primitive”

WOW, Thanks a bunch.

I can not justify a V8 - looks like the gears, Intake and Exhaust are still bang for the buck, best idea. I know nitrous is great, always worry about damaging a good engine though.

I'm very interested in the gear swap for my 2001. What is the best source of information to get this done, or to DIY? Is it just the gear swap, or are additional mods required to do it correctly?

I had a Viper Tech do mine in 2003 when I had my other car. There are people on here who know better than I, but there was also a computer plug in, or an electrical component that changed your speedometer as well so your car would show the proper speed. I would want both if both are still available. With the three mods mentioned, your car will get solid second gear rubber. It's a hoot! Red light/green light, very competitive! And has most people going; "Wow, I thought they only put 6 Cylinders in those things!" Of course, 6 and even 4 cylinder cars today, can be pretty spunky.

The best bang for the buck is a wet/dry nitrous system by Zex. Stay safe by not going over 75HP and use iridium plugs. This is performance that you don't want to use to often due to the bottle capacity but it is a kick when you do use it. See my up coming video with Pat O'Meara. Don't waste your time or money on headers. I did dyno testing on stock headers vs Prowler Pros headers and gained only 1.1 HP. Add a low pressure fuel cut out switch if you do decide to go with the Nitrous for safety. Only real reason for engine failure is low fuel to oxygen ratio.

When you install gears there is a required adapter that plugs into the transmission controller in the trunk. This is to make the speedometer accurate.

The quickest and cheapest mod to a Prowler is putting shims behind the door checks. JMO

Thanks all, have always been frightened of Nitrous. Are the plug in for the gears still available ? I only see gears offered through the prowler store. Are the shims on the door so that they open wider ? Thanks!

Ahh bummer John, I was hoping you would have snatched up one of the two posts on the Bosch Spark plugs I brought to the top a few weeks ago.

Keep checking ebay for Bosch 4428 in the search bar. I'll keep looking as well.
