Is this a "must have" or has anyone put this on after the fact. I got the deal on the cone filter and intake tube, but no heat shield. Will be easy enough to make, but I was curious. Also, what gains with the egr bypass?

Heat shield is recommended IMO. ...for performance, and protection from shrinking the filter element from excessive heat.

EGR bypass merely eliminates pollution going back in the engine possibly gunking up the intake plenum walls in the future...No HP gain as far as I know.

The heat shield can be bought at autozone for about $10.

This is JMO, but I would avoid this setup.

No heat shield, no instructions, slow shipping and poor customer service. Not sure why I was trying to save a few bucks.

I am interested in a heat shield and egr bypass if someone has one. Thanks for the tip on AutoZone. I will be replacing the filter with a K&N.
