Turkey Drags at No Problem Raceway
2003-11-28
I had two new personal best for this low-boost paxton supercharged Prowler. 1.865 ET for 60' time and 5.286 ET for the 330' time. I had a 8.172 (1/8 mile ET compared to my best of 8.168 ET when I ran a 12.73 ET for the ¼ mile). In my 1st heads up, I beat a C5 Vette Coupe. Than in my 2nd heads up I beat a Mustang GT and in the 1st round of the elimination's I beat a Nova... We had five of us get out early to NPR for the Turkey Drags. Well, we got out to NPR early and because of high cross winds (30 mph gusts) the track made the decision (Safety) to run 1/8 mile drags today. Since this was a money race, the admission was $20 ($10 for track & $10 for Street pool winnings - up to $60 depending on class). The other surprise was we were limited to two time trials (track rule for money race days to manage the high number of racers)... Although, Jim, Dave & Jonathan were able to squeeze in three time trial runs. There were lots of cars at the track and they were there early... It appeared to be the regular racers crowd. Maybe 40 cars in the Street class and loaded with super stock, dragsters and all the real race cars and 12 or so Jr. Dragsters.... Dave Cook (8.19 ET -02 Z06 with Ligenfelther supercharger) made three runs during the time trials, Jim (8.19 ET 02 Z06) & Jonathan (Jim's 16 year old son a 10.45 ET - 03 Cavalier) Boudreaux each got three runs in the time trials and Bob Palmisano (8.45 ET 02 C5 Coupe) only got two runs in. I got two runs with my O1 Vette Conv. (8.34 ET) and two with the Prowler (8.17 ET)... This was my best 1/8 mile ET for my 01 C5 Vette conv 8.349 compared to 8.39 when I ran a 13.011 ¼ ET. Based on these times and the mphs by Dave and Jim, my guess is Dave would have been pushing Hi 11s and Jim mid 12s in the ¼ today... I had one race against Dave my 01 vette against his supercharged Z06 and he passed me just before the 1/8 mile post and was flying pass me... It was a long day and after the first round decided to head back to Mandeville... Although our initial plans were not to hang around for the elimination's, Jim, Jonathan & I decided why not. We each made a run in the first round. Jonathan and I each won our round and Jim barely missed a win in his... This was Jonathan's first time driving on the drag strip and first competition in a race. He did fantastic. His reaction times were good all day. And, in the elimination race he did a front wheel burnout with his Cavalier (and, the announcer says "we have a sleeper here"). In that run, he beat an SRT4 and the driver had been giving all the other 4-bangers a hard time in the pits... So, great win for Jonathan. We decided to leave after that round and headed back to Mandeville. Stopped at the Golden Grove Truck stop in Gramercy and had some delicious Seafood gumbo. It really turned out to be a terrific day at the track Jim, Jonathan and I had a blast... --------------------------- Saturday -------------------------- Two more 12 second runs today ... Went back to No Problem today for the 2nd day of Turkey Drags. Made two runs in the time trials (1 hour & 40 minutes apart). There were a whole lot of cars out there... The time trials didn't get started until sometime after 1:00 pm. On my 1st run I ran a 12.88 ET and beat a Camaro Z28 who had a 13.32 ET. The announcer was pretty cool.. He says in the left lane (Coors lite) we have a Prowler with lil V6 and the right lane is a Camaro with a V8.... Now, that was all I needed to hear... I'd luv to be in the stands listening to the crowd reaction... Yesterday, it was just a good looking car.... On my 2nd run I ran a 12.91 ET lined up against an Altima (15.70 ET)... I did improve my 60" ET on 2nd run to my new 2nd best (1.884). I did rev the motor a little higher on that 2nd run.... And, I was a little loose leaving the line and going into 2nd gear... I hadn't planned on going back to NPR today, but after seeing there was very lil wind this morning I decided to make the two hour trip hoping to run the ¼ and see if I could improve my personal best... Two good runs, no new personal best, but it was worth the try. Skipped the elimination's (didn't feel like waiting around another two hours) and headed back to Mandeville... I'll miss the NPR Christmas Drags and will wait until next year for more track time... I saw Jordon yesterday (he passed me along the interstate on his way to the LSU/Arkansas game) and he said his Prowler should be back from Dean at Prowler Pro in two weeks... And, "Waynew" wasn't there on either day... I figured I better get back just in case he had the days confused...
