Has anyone tried to determine if having a front shock brace has any affect on the ball joint problem. I wonder if by stiffening up the suspension it helps prevent the failure or causes it?

From what I recall the failure of the ball joint was due to corrosion. So I would think lack of grease on the joint would accelerate failure.

I am curious if more failures accrued in regions that use salt on the roads?

I'd say salt, winter / rain driving. all help increase the likelyhood of failure.

I honestly would say I really don't see how a brace would accelerate the failure process.

I agree, anyone ever wonder why the front joints have grease fitting on the top and not the bottom and why the bottom on the rear and not the top?

same reason why they didn't put lock washers on the rear braces, which constantly come loose and cause our cars to then ride rough. To "save money"

I have had my braces installed for over 25,000 miles and 2 1/2 years and have had no problems (with the ball joints or any other problem). To the best of my knowledge, none of the cars that have suffered ball joint failure have had a brace installed.

Are we talking about the 'BRACE' that some of us put across the top of the shocks that is an aluminum bar ?

As you read this keep in mind I am not a suspension engineer. As noted above it is felt that none of the failures were on cars with the aftermarket brace between the shocks. I just wondered if by installing one that it tightened the front end and maybe kept from putting extra stress on the ball joints and thus prevented the breakage. On the other hand did they change the suspension geometry and took away flexibility that may have been designed into the front end for a purpose. Just some thoughts from someone who has read Hot Rod, Car Craft, etc for 30 years and maybe thinking too much!
