I was wondering.....

Let's say Chrysler makes the mass recall in the Spring on the ball joints..... They replace them all. This brings a few questions in mind:

1) How long will the NEW ball joints be warrantied for? Would they have a separate warranty?

2) What if there are widespread problems with the new ball joints, IE: many people experience failure with them. Would they issue yet another recall?

Thanks.

Speaking as a warranty guy myself, typically the recall would carry 12months/12k miles for warranty, or the remainder of your factory warranty, whichever is greater.

If they issued a recall on a recall it is still their dime to fix.

Cordially,

A recall is still a recall whether it's the first time or the tenth.

I have never heard of a recall where the vehicle owner was to pay for it.

But, this does bring to mind an interesting question,

When do they stop issuing any recalls on a particular vehicle model? 1 year after production ends? 5 years? 30 years?

Thanks guys....

I don't feel so stupid for asking now...But I really had no idea how such a crucial item being recalled would be warrantied, once replaced.

I would imagine a good number of replaced ball joints would have to fail in order for DC to issue another recall on the same item.

A Ball joint is such a safety issue, I doubt it would take more then a handful to fail to force another recall.

My son got a recall on his 93 Jeep about 2 months ago. That's 10 model years.

How about a car that only has a couple of thousand miles on it, and has never seen any rain? The ball joints show no signs of corrosion. Are they going to replace them, and with what, another of the same type? Should I get them replaced? Unless they replace with stainless steel joints, what's the point?

Even if your car "never saw rain" or shows no wear, the recall still applies. It applies to all years or VIN numbers that the manufacturer states.

Al - I hope so also. I would think an alignment would be needed after the replacement.

Recall by Chrysler was in the Kalamazoo, MI newspaper Sunday. It is recalling all 11,655 Prowlers of every year. Short article but did say they were replacing the Lower ball joint on all vehicles.

IT was reported on CNN over the weekend along with a bunch of other recalls. I forgot some of them but a few were

Concorde's
Intrepid's
Ram 2500/3500 - current model
Prowler - all

There was about 7-8 different models total and I wasn't paying attention to the specific years or problems.

I had my kat at the dealer today for other work and they nothing in their computer yet about the recall so could not even order the parts yet to perform the work. Tey said it could be as long as six weeks.

Thanks Marty,
I called two of my local dealerships and they played dumb on the phone, "Nope haven't heard nothing about it," like it hasn't been on CNN and other owners haven't called in. I called DC and they took my info so I will get the word when it comes down. Guess we will just have to wait for the offical go ahead.

Intreresting news Ben. I assume that even if all the dealers had the recall info, we would still have to wait until there are enough new parts manufactured.

So even if we scheduled now, most would be on backorder waiting for the parts?

Which one in Bradenton?

I always go to Sarasota Chrysler. at 6826 S. Tamiami Tr. 941-922-0711

Always great service there. Scott McGibbon works at the service desk and has a few Prowler toys on his desk and has Prowler Business cards. I recommend going there.

I talked to Chrysler yesterday and they claim that the recall has NOT been issued yet. They will be notifying owners in April. No work will be done until then. By the way the dealers have not been notified.

Hey Hollywood,

I saw your Yellow Prowler the other day at Public on SR-64 (Manatee Ave E, 6th Ave E) yesterday. Didn't have time to stop and say hello though!

The Chrysler dealer I go to here is Firkins. Chuck Knapp is my service advisor and their number is 941-748-6510. Their address is 2700 1st St. in Bradenton by the DeSoto Mall.

Well scratch the post about the Firkins dealer -- they are "unqualified" to work on my Prowler because of the Supercharger. Bastards.

Just talked with Scott. He seems pretty helpful. They just want to run the VIN to see if there are any restrictions on it and then if they have to move Supercharger stuff around, they will just tack on $ for labor that it takes them. Very fair folks so far!
