This is an excerpt from a 10 AM press release this morning involving a bunch of Chrysler cars: "The company recalled 11,655 Chrysler and Plymouth Prowlers from 1997-2002 to replace the lower ball joint on the front suspension. The remedy will prevent it from separating from the control arm due to corrosion."

Thanks Rich.

Here's the entire Chrysler Press Release:

"Chrysler Group Announces Recalls

Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb. 14, 2003 -

Chrysler LHS, 300M, Concorde and Dodge Intrepid

Chrysler Group will recall some 1998-2002 Chrysler LHS, 300M, Concorde and Dodge Intrepid vehicles to install stronger bolts on the driver's seat. The recall affects approximately 1.2 million vehicles (1,066,518 US, 135,678 Canada, 25,042 BUX and 6,966 Mexico).

A company investigation determined the seat recliner bolts attached to the seat frame may loosen due to premature wear. Chrysler Group will replace the existing bolts with stronger bolts and for 1998-2000 vehicles with power seats, a replacement flex-shaft also will be installed.

Dodge Ram
Twenty-three thousand Chrysler Group 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 and
3500 trucks that have diesel engines and manual transmissions will be recalled to reprogram the engine control software. The company determined an increased idle speed could occur following extended use of cruise control.

Prowler
The Chrysler Group also will recall 11,655 1997-2002 Chrysler and Plymouth Prowlers to replace the lower ball joint on the front suspension to prevent it from potentially separating from the control arm due to corrosion.

NHTSA Closes Investigation
After a full investigation by Chrysler Group and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the government has closed the 1993-2003 Jeep® Grand Cherokee investigation alleging inadvertent rearward movement of these vehicles.

Customers may call the customer call center at 1-800-853-1403 with questions."

Not to nit-pick but why is that number different from the total number produced that we previously thought? Anyone know?

Ed.

My guess it doesn't include some number of the "Pilot" Prowlers...

Because the Woodward Edition was created PERFECT, no recall is necessary.

I wanted to add a note. I think this is a very important recall. I spoke to a DC official yesterday involving the recall.

Until there is sufficient parts available to handle the "first so called group of people" who run to the dealers for this recall", new parts must be in ample supply to keep complaints down. You should get your notice when they are in main distribution. That is the hold up. I guess about 44-60 days. The ball is rolling fast on this I presume.

Be Safe!
Sassy

Thanks Beware

Just going by the numbers… DC’s cost to do a total recall on all Prowlers (qty 11,655) has got to cost much less then a recall on 300Ms (Qty 1.2 Million).

I was just watching the news and there was an announcement about the recall. It is good to see that something is being done about this. After hearing about problems with some of the cars, it has always been in the back of my mind. Even after having my Prowler checked, it still has been a concern of mine.

I think this calls for some kind of nationwide Recall Party!
All Prowler owners can schedule their recall work on the same Saturday. Maybe get Mopar to spring for pizza! CJ, wadda ya think?

Jan was there any explanation given to you as to why your information contradicts the Press release and also seemingly the verbage in the Recall text shown above?

i gave copy of press release to my service advisor at chrysler,he called d/c,and they told him that not all prowlers would get new joints.if you notice release says 11,655 prowlers.i dont know the exact number built,at this time.lets say 17.000 that leaves a difference of 5345 cars.
owners on recall list will receive letters in mail to bring car in.as of yesterday,my 99 was not on list.i will have him check again in about 2 weeks.as you know az.has no corrosion,if you believe thats the problem, which its not.a local prowler owner already had his lt.frt.break. no corrosion here.we are hearing a lot of different stories, give it time, let the dust settle, and see what happens.i would think if chrysler was smart, they would recall all prowlers,to avoid future lawsuits.if one breaks that wasnt recalled, they would have a huge problem.if mines not recalled and breaks, you can bet i wont be calling my ins.co.our co.owns 91 car dealers, they have some very good lawyers.
