The first the November of last year I was going about 45 mph and the front right ball joint came apart. It did not break, it just came apart. I had no warning it was going to happen. Warranty fixed it the tune of $8,300. Don't let this happen to you. |

Joe - thanks for the post and information. I'm sure you have been reading our posts on this topic, and I agree, everyone should respond to the recall by DC when it happens. BTW - glad there were no injuries involved in your incident! ------------------

Thanks for the reply, It makes me sick that it happened because after feeling the front end hit the pavement it makes you nervous to drive again. If I had been going faster there is no telling what would have happened. |

I bought it new in Jan 99 and is a 1999 model, it had 42K miles on it when it happened. |

Does anyone know if the ball joint is from DC parts bin, if it is used on something else. If so perhaps some after market place has them with a grease fitting to help us out down the road. |

I talked to Chrysler yesterday and they claim that the recall has NOT been issued yet. They will be notifying owners in April. No work will be done until then. By the way the dealers have not been notified. |

Dealers have received notice that a Prowler recall will be issued in the near future. In this case, the notice is buried within a notice of an upcoming Concorde seatbelt bolt recall. This may be why some dealers are saying they know nothing about a Prowler recall. They did not read the complete notice. This initial notice is sent over Chrysler's internal email system to dealers. Dealers usually get formal recall instructions by mail 7-10 days after receipt of the internal email notice. I will post the full written recall the minute it is issued. |

Can DC do something to the effect of checking this on all Prowlers???????????? I don't think that I have to worry much about my 2001 with just over 3,056, but I would rather have it checked, and find out that nothing is wrong, then to have that happen any one else!!!!! |

I'm not sure why Jan said in this thread that the recall is not for all Prowlers ever made. I have read and watched on the news that it IS for every Prowler ever made. And as I understand a recall....they aren't gonna "check" our ball joints, they are gonna REPLACE them with a balljoint design that doesn't just fall apart. So I'm thinking we are all gonna be taking our Kats down to the dealership as soon as the recall goes into effect and they have the parts. Also, even though I have no inside knowledge, I'm thinking that it's gonna be sooner than later. I would think that before they just went and made a massive recall that they would first get the replacement part engineered, machined, tooled, and produced in the quantity they need. Otherwise if they procrastinate too long they are gonna get nailed by the government and lose their butts in a HUGE lawsuit if (God forbid) someone gets hurt or loses their life due to the balljoints coming apart...Does that all sound about right? Or am I off the mark here? |

I was told that I had a good case for a lawsuit, but I decided against it. All Prowler owners with higher mileage be especially careful, until the ball joints are replaced. When the ball joint came apart it ruined the chrome wheel and the fender. Both had to be replaced also. |
