Safety Recall Nol. CO3, Front Suspension Lower Ball Joints for 1997-2000 (PR) Plymouth Prowler and 2001-2002 (PR) Chrysler Prowler, has been issued. The left and right front lower ball joints must be replaced. The replacement part number is CBBTC030 which is a Ball Joint Package that includes: 2 Lower Ball Joints, 2 Nuts, hex Flange, 4 Nut & Washer, 2 Washer. I'm not sure if anyone else had posted this information but I promised that I would as soon as I received the information. You'll be pleased to note that the formal "Service Procedure" warns techs to "Use extreme care when removing the fender to avoid scratching any of the painted surfaces." Letters will be sent every owner. The letter indicates that "the lower ball joints . . . may allow dirt and/or water to enter the ball joint. This could result in premature ball joint wear and cause the ball joint to separate." Interestingly, this is not an inspect and replace only if necessary recall. Rather, all the lower ball joints will be replaced. |

Got this reply from my service manager just a few minutes ago... "Just got advanced notice of the recall today. It does call for the replacement BTW: Elmo....good clarification on the recall....Because I was told by the Service manager that these sealed ball joints fall under "Inspect and replace IF needed" on a lot of other DC cars IE: Cirrus, Intrepid, etc.... Yes. Again, the recall says the left and right lower ball joints must be replaced. Don't let anyone tell you this is just an inspection. |

Oh, in another topic someone asks if an alignment will be performed as part of the recall. The answer is: no. It's not necessary. |

Just received a phone call from my dealer to bring my Kat in Thursday morning for the Lower Ball Joint replacement. WOW! Fast! I also will be getting (4) new center caps. I told him to put them in the car, not on the car as I had to do the MadMax Modification before installation. He understood. Looks like Chrysler is going to move quickly on this problem before it gets more expensive when someone gets hurt! I will be able to drive without worring that the front wheel is going to fall off! |

Elmo, Would it be possible once I start driving my Prowler to make an appointment at your dealership to have the work done? I've done a search and I think you're ( if you're in Walled Lake ) about an hour away from me, I'd like to take into a place that has an interest in the Prowler ( the dealership I bought mine from is a minus five star dealership). Thanks |

Could be the wheel could flop around when loose at the bottom and damage the fender. ??? This message has been edited by Buckaneer on 03-31-2003 at 07:36 PM |

The Fender gets removed to get at the knuckle, and once the knuckle gets removed then you get to the joints, just look at the front end. |

quote: Sure, we would be happy to help. Call my Service Manager Ken Scritchfield for more information. (248) 669-2010. We are working on getting parts. We are a Five Star dealer and I have a great Prowler Tech. He installed the Paxton Supercharger, exhaust and gears on my Prowler. Thanks. Bob Shuman |

I just got off the phone with the Service Rep. at my local dealer. He said the pats came in today. I scheduled an appointment for Mon. (4/7/03) for the replacement. I'll keep ya'll posted. I suggest that you contact your dealer A-S-A-P if you haven't already done so to order the parts. This rep. confirmed what many have posted. That there are a limited number of parts available on the first run and they have been allocated to dealers on a percentage of sales/service basis. ------------------ |

My car had the ball joints replaced today at Park Jeep in Burnsville, MN! Seems to ride better.
