I got my new ball joints yesterday at my dealership in Kakauna, Wi. They have sold 4 prowlers, inculding mine, and they knew since I drive mine all the time that I should be the first one to recieve them. It went really smooth and the center-caps didn't break, since I was the one to pull them off. The numbers that were posted on the sight earlier are correct CO3 for the recall, and CBBTCO3O is the right number for the joints. Make sure that you mark your wheels and hubs so they put them on in the exact same position, so you don't have the tire-bounce. Even with my mods, there wasn't a problem. P.S.-It does seem to ride smoother. -BJohn, (formally bigjohn) |

Our new ball joints were installed today. Dropped it off this morning picked it up this evening. No broken center caps. Front end did seem to ride smoother. Not sure if it was wishful thinking or fact. I did not receive the notice. I just called an made an appointment. We now feel better about driving to Mobile Alabama 4/25. quote: when you say you don't have the tire bounce, what does that mean, also did they take your fenders off. Thank you in advance. ------------------ New pictures in Personal Scrapbook (02/23/03) |

Just got back home with my new ball joints. Boy I feel better. I also got 4 new center caps. I told them not to put them on, just lay them in the front seat and I would make the Madmax modification and then put them on. I got home and did the Madmax treatment and put them up in the garage. I had already done the treatment on my old caps when they broke and they stayed on fine. I will save the new ones for later. Seem to steer somewhat easier I think. Is that in my mind or what? I only have 950 miles on it. Anyway it's done now and I don't have to worry about it. This message has been edited by Buckaneer on 04-03-2003 at 08:12 PM |

Kraut: This thread explains it best with photos! http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000206.html A very crucial mod and after doing it, you can put the caps on and take them off all day long with no breakage! One of the priceless features of visiting this site! Basically what you do is glob hot glue to the BACK of each clip, effectively reinforcing it. It does not involve glueing the cap to the wheel in any way. I ran the glue all the way up the BACK of each clip, doubling the thickness of it and making it much stronger! Look over the post from Madmax earlier. He tells about using a hot glue gun to strengthen the clips on the center cap to keep them from breaking. It is easy and it works great! I even fixed my old center caps that were broken. Just do search for Glue gun and you will find the post from Madmax. |
