At dealers yesterday, and was told they have received the recall notice. It also gave them a list of owners that they had sold cars to and that the ball joints should be in, in the next two weeks. They penciled me in for the 22nd of April. |

Have been folling the info on the ball joints. My yellow 2002 started squeaking on the right front, nad the steering was harder to return than normal. The car has 13,500 miles on it. Took it to the dealer on thursday afternoon, asked them if they were aware of the recall. Yhey said that they had just received the recall but didnt know if the parts were in as of that moment. They called back at 5:30 that afternoon and said the car was completed and that they had replaced both sides. I was impressed with the speed that this was handled. All owners should be receiving their recall shortly, but be careful, age and miles evidently have nothing to do with the joints going bad. As I said this is a 2002 with 13,500 miles Thanks Spencer....... |

Are Prowlers just harder to turn than your avg vehicle? I picked mine up with 200 miles on it and it has always acted like manual steering and the wheels do not return without assistance on slow turns. Much, much worse than my Jeep wrangler. I have only put 200 miles on it since purchased in Dec.. I can't imagine ball joints going bad in less than 200 miles unless lack of use is a contributor. |

My 2001 Prowler with almost 12k miles is very easy to steer and I haven't had my ball joints replaced yet. |

I believe they are harder to steer than any other vehicle, just be careful when the steering gets real Hard... ------------------ |

Mine turms real easy right now with no motor in it! Actually I believe the steering is fairly comparable to other sporty vevichles I have driven. |

Spencer, was there any visible damage to the original ball joints after they removed them? There were no signs of corrosion on mine at 28,200. |

I just got back from my friend's house where he showed me the ball joint recall is in the Consumer's Report Magazine. He told me about it in case I hadn't heard about it. I had, but it's interesting that the recall in in CR Mag and we haven't gotten the word by mail yet. |

Just received my notice/recall from DC in yesterdays mail! The notice said "DC will replace both lower ball joints, including parts and labor". However, there is no mention of realignment of the front end. Dave |

Ed: In response to your question about the ball joints showing visible signs of wear. I inspected them myself and they did not show any signs of wear at all, they were not loose, nor did any rust appear on any parts. Evidently because of the absence of the grease fitting, these units begin to seize, this is where the noise comes from, and the tight steering. |
