I GOT MY RECALL NOTICE THE OTHER DAY AND THE DEALERSHIP CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO ADVISE ME OF THE RECALL....I ASKED IF THEY HAD A CERTIFIED PROWLER TECH AND THE ANSWER WAS NO...HOW IMPORTANT IS THAT WHEN HAVING THIS DONE?? I LIVE JUST OUTSIDE OF CANTON OHIO, (pro football hall of fame)..NOT EXACTLY LOS ANGELES...NOT SURE IF THERE IS A CERTIFIED TECH WITHIN 500 MILES..IS THIS SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT OR SHOULD I BE MORE WORRIED WHEN THEY BREAK THE CENER CAPS TAKING THEM OFF????

Art, cheer up, at least they are honest enough to say they don't have a Prowler tech. A lot of the dealers would just say "yes, we do" and leave it go at that. If the guy is a good mechanic I wouldn't worry about it. Come to think of it, I am not worried about YOUR car even if the guy is a total hack. lol. Make a couple of calls and see if there is one near you.

My service manager told me his Prowler tech moved to FLA. he reassured me greatly with his confidence on working on the Prowler. he told me that when the techs go to Prowler cert. school they really get a sales pitch on the technology more than a hands on learning. It goes to show that nothing beats experience with the car other than some classes. Do your homework when taking the car in...IE: I had to point out the fact that there are still 4 ball joints that can be lubed on the car which he did not know...But when he said "If it can be lubed we will find it" I was reassured again.the most important thing is rapport with the service dept. and knowing that the respect and care for the car wheen working on it. I know my Prowler will be the first one my dealer has worked on, but the service manager has gone to great lengths to put me at ease....So I appreciate his effort, and am hoping for the best when I take it in.

In this particular case, what advantage would a certified prowler mechanic have? This is a new procedure that NOBODY has been trained on (replace balljoint only, not the whole lower control arm as was the prior procedure). Chrysler sent the parts, tools and instructions - certified or not, it sounds like OJT to me.-GRROWL

The only thing that I can see that might be critical during this procedure is the handling of the brake rotors and lines. Don't let them just hang, and don't tie them up out of the way with wire ties (use plastic). Like GRROWL says, the rest "sounds like OJT".

The Prowlers techs do have a special set of Prowler-specific tools. I believe my tech did use some of these while doing mine. The dealership may have the tool set even if they don't have a tech on hand. I'm not sure if they are necessary or not for this job.

The tech had a Purple prowler tool kit 1997 on lid. There were two certified techs there.------------------
