Took the cat in for the ball joint recall and I am getting
bad vibes. What suppose to be a 3 hour repair is now turning into a week or more. The service advisor called me
and informed me that it'll take a whole day at first, then
called back and said it was more difficult that anticipated
and need to keep it overnight. He called the following
afternoon and told me that they had to order new steering
knuckles for the cat and it'll take until next week to finish the job. I don't see how it will need knuckles unless it was damaged by them. Anyone else had this problem?

Take it from me... it's time you made a surprise visit to your dealer and demanded to see your car so you can see how badly they screwed it up.

Bottom line they did not have the tools to do the job and attempted to remove it and damaged your A arms somehow.

I would not go back to them because I would not be able to trust their workmanship.

Very scarry!!

yep, they messed up the Kat and are now trying to cover it up. Problem, no more A arms in stock.

I'm getting some bad vibes just reading your post! It is horror stories like these which prompted me to call my service manager several times before taking the car in. The last call the day before went like this...

"Got the ball joints in?"
-"Yup!"
"Got the removal tool on hand?" (Yes it is a special tool, but an old tool that not many dealers have anymore. They loan their tool around to their sister dealerships. Looks like a big C-Clamp with an air tool socket at the bottom.)
-"Yup!"
"and do you have a wonderful mechanic who loves Prowlers and will take care of it?"
-"You bet. Bring it on in and we'll take care of ya"

I brought it in and let the mechanic alone for a while to figure out the first ball joint, but only after explaining some details and letting him know this is more than a car to me at this point, and those control arms aren't easy to find if ruined. He worked carefully and methodically, which was reassuring for me. Then I sat with the car for the remainder of the service which also involved lubing the other fittings and coolant service. I was very happy with the treatment of me and my car. They were cool enough to not mind me sitting next to the car. (I tried not to bother them too much) ....then again, if I wasn't allowed near the car while it was up on the lift, I would not have noticed the front shocks leaking. I'll get them replaced next visit. Parts are ordered.

I highly recommend Waldorf Chrysler for Prowler service... They don't have a Prowler tech on board anymore, but more importantly, they care about the car and customer satisfaction....Pretty cool.
