My Mega 5-Star multi-dealership Chrysler service rep called me back today to tell me they wouldn't be doing the balljoint Recall repairs because the "special tool required was too expensive" for the amount of the repairs they would be doing.

Anyone know how much this special tool cost? I was suprised at their response. It hasn't seemed to be a problem for most dealerships. Guess I have to go across the river to Oregon to find a dealership that can handle it...

90% of the tools are in the prowler tool kit and the one other item is a tool that all dealers should have anyway,
doing the job is no big deal for a tech of any experience but is better if done by a Prowler tech,

by the way the price of the tool kit with shipping is less then 600.00 but if your a prowler dealer you had to have bought one with your first car back in 97

I have the only Prowler that my dealer services and he has all the tools. I doubt he bought them just for me!

If you recall RPL's post a while back, DC designed and produced special tools to complete the replacement (remember the joints were previously serviced with the control arm). They were not part of the original Prowler tool kit.

CJ: To elaborate....My service manager told me that the tool is pretty old and most dealerships don't have it anymore. I was lucky enough for my service dept to have one on hand, but they do loan it out to all their sister dealerships for the recalls...

....Looks like a huge C-Clamp that works off the air socket wrench.

My dealership didn't have the tool on hand but requested and had it within 2 days. The service manager didn't seem to think this was a big deal.

Thanks B/T - after reading your statement about the C-clamp tool,,,may have answered a question I had asked in 'KNUCKLES' thread in this forum.

The scratch damage on the lower A arms looks like the arm moved around in a C-clamp type device. UNACCEPTABLE DAMAGE
Surely this can be prevented???

My "five star" dealer (Carl Burger La Mesa, CA) is still waiting for the TOOL! I called on April 8th to schedule the replacement. Again on May 15th-response, "still waiting for the TOOL! During my last call I was told the tool comes from Miller Tool? DC strikes again.

Jump in your car and drive to Ontario! Call 909-390-9898 to make an appointment and tell them Larry sent ya!
They'll have the job done in about an hour while you wait and we haven't had any damage yet.
John has done over 20 recalls so far.
